Grade 2-5-Another goofy, gross-out selection from a popular author. In this, their first graphic novel, Harold and George are caught in the act of skateboarding over ketchup packets in the gym and ordered by Principal Krupp to write an essay on good citizenship. After strict instructions against turning in another "Captain Underpants" comic book, the boys decide to create a new superhero. When super power juice is sucked out of Captain Underpants by the evil Deputy Dangerous, it appears that all is lost. However, the potent liquid is ingested by a newborn baby and "Super Diaper Baby" is born. In a plot to recapture the juice from the infant, Deputy Dangerous inadvertently becomes "Deputy Doo-Doo" when he is turned into a giant "poop" by his own invention. Where do the heroes take him? "Why Uranus, of course!" Puns, jokes about bodily functions, and ludicrous misspellings will keep children who enjoy this level of comedy suitably entertained. ("What's the difference between boogers and broccoli? Kids won't eat broccoli.") Any library with a "Captain Underpants" (Scholastic) following will want to own multiple copies of this title as well.

When Dav Pilkey was a kid, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hallway every day. Luckily, Dav loved to draw and make up stories. He spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comic books - the very first adventures of Dog Man and Captain Underpants.
In college, Dav met a teacher who encouraged him to illustrate and write. He won a national competition in 1986 and the prize was the publication of his first book, World War Won. He made many other books before being awarded the 1998 California Young Reader Medal for Dog Breath, which was published in 1994, and in 1997 he won the Caldecott Honor for The Paperboy.
The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby, published in 2002, was the first complete graphic novel spin-off from the Captain Underpants series and appeared at #6 on the USA Today bestseller list for all books, both adult and children's, and was also a New York Times bestseller. It was followed by Super Diaper Baby 2: The Invasion of the Potty Snatchers, also a USA Today bestseller. The unconventional style of these graphic novels is intended to encourage uninhibited creativity in kids.
His stories are semi-autobiographical and explore universal themes that celebrate friendship, tolerance, and the triumph of the good-hearted.
Dav loves to kayak in the Pacific Northwest with his wife.

George Beard (age 9 and 3/4), is the author of three epic novels for children:
The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby (2002), The Adventures of Ook & Gluk, Kung-Fu Cavemen from the Future (2010), and Super Diaper Baby 2: The Invasion of the Potty Snatchers (2011)
George's epic novels have often been compared to the great works of Leo Tolstoy. His novels (which feature illustrations by his best friend, Harold Hutchins), have sold millions of copies and will soon be made into major motion pictures.
Currently, George Beard is a 4th Grader at Jerome Horwitz Elementary School in Piqua, Ohio. He lives with his parents, his two cats and five goldfish. George enjoys television, video games, chocolate chip cookies, kung-fu, and skateboarding.
George is also one of the co-stars of the Captain Underpants series of children's books.

My right year old son gave the quote above when I asked him what he thought of this book. So there you have it.

I asked what else he had to say, and he said "nothing."

So let me say this is the first Dav Piljey book we got in the Kindle edition and it's pretty great.

There is one huge problem with the Kindle edition (note we are reading on a Fire tablet). You can read in comic view, where you can go panel by panel. That is actually terrible. The worst. Unforgivable. That's because the panels are cut off and you can't see even the whole text sometimes, let alone the whole picture.

But you can get around this problem by not using comic or panel view, but by using the whole page view and enlarging to read panel by panel. It's fine that way.

We then switched to panel view for the Flip-O-Ramas, and that is fantastic. A MUCH better Flip-O-Rama experience than with the paper books. The panels morph into each other and it's like a real animation. After each Flip-O-Rama, we switch back to whole page view to avoid the truly catastrophic, awful panel editing.

We are thinking that the Kindle edition might be the way to go for all future Dad Pilkey books. But seriously, whoever did the panel editing on this needs to find another line of work. They need to actually go in and do this again and update all our copies.
