Water Sensor 6.
Your home’s 6th sense for preventing water damage.
We protect our homes in so many ways. With smoke sensors, door locks, and security systems. But more homes are damaged each year by small leaks than by devastating fires or burglaries. Water Sensor 6 changes that, using Z-Wave Plus to silently monitor areas of your home at risk of water and then taking action when the worst occurs.
Water Sensor 6.
Flood. Leak. Safety sensor.
Water Sensor 6 is a flood sensor, leak sensor, and safety sensor. It helps you monitor for 3 expensive, emergency events.
Leaks & bursts.
Water Sensor 6 can detect minuscule amounts of water – as little as 0.5mm / 0.02” of water. That makes it your first line of defence against damaged plumbing.
Whether a small amount or large, Water Sensor 6 also is perfect at protecting against the floods you can anticipate, such as sumps and in basements.
Accidents happen but that doesn’t make the damage caused by forgotten taps any less expensive. Water Sensor 6 can alert you to the water you’ve forgotten to turn off before it’s too late.
The leak sensor with a vibration sensor.
Water Sensor 6 utilises a vibration sensor based algorithm to confirm leaks. Z-Wave gateways can also use it to ensure that the sensor hasn’t been tampered with.
The leak sensor with a temperature sensor.
The leak sensor with a temperature sensor.
Crafted for heating management, such as controlling underfloor heating, Water Sensor 6’s inbuilt temperature sensor can monitor temperatures between -4ºF to 212ºF.
Do you know?
14000 people in the U.S. experience a water damage emergency at home or work each day. That’s about 2/3 of a sellout crowd at Madison Square Garden.
98% of basements in the U.S. will experience some type of water damage during their lifespans.
37% of U.S. homeowners claim to have suffered losses from water damage.
Don’t let your home and your valuables suffer the same damage.

But since the issues are related to the manufacturer I have to ding it appropriately. I bought directly from Aeotec as the Amazon seller and it seems that they are selling used and defective items as new items through Amazon fulfillment.
The first sensor arrived and I noticed that the product seal had been peeled back and restuck elsewhere on the box. Inside, the battery tab was missing and when I opened it up, I found that there was a piece of scotch tape. Since this is an expensive sensor at $59, I didn't want to take a chance so Amazon shipped me a replacement overnight and waived the expedited shipping. The next day, the second one arrived, also from Aeotec. This one was missing the security seal and the box was ripped as if it had been opened. Inside, the item had obvious pry marks on all sides where someone had used not their fingers or the included pry tool to open it but a small flatblade screwdriver. Furthermore, the unit was completely DOA (tested the battery it was OK). What a waste of time.
Aeotec, quit abusing the Amazon system to dump your refurbished, used, or returned items as full price. Selling used as new is fraud. I'm starting to wonder if the engineering is as shoddy as the fulfillment, I hope not.
Specifically with the Water Sensor 6, it gives you the ability to either place on the floor (which I’m not a fan of, but depends on your situation), or the use of the separately purchased docking station, which allows for mounting on a wall - well above any potential flood. For anyone with experience of the original Aeotec Water Sensor, you’d know the battery life was always fantastic, the new 6 should be no different, which is important because it’s usully the first sensor you’ll forget about and the last one you want to wind up replacing batteries in. As a nice upgrade, it can also measure temperatures (think freeze earnings), vibration (say someone trying to move the sensor), and something I never thought would be a benefit, a decent little siren (handy when no one is home with access to your smart home platform to see a notification).
Although this review is specifically for the Water Sensor 6 alone, I want to note the benefits of the Dock option..
- option for constant usb power
- option for two wired probes for monitoring two nearby locations (provided)
- allows for wall mounting (so even if your basement for instance starts to flood, you won’t burn out your sensor)
Overall, would absolutely recommend!
