About the Author

The life lessons of Aesop’s fables were passed to Vincent Mastro from his parents and grandparents in different stories associated with his ethnic heritage. During his teen years he learned of Aesop’s fables and realized they were indeed the source of these important messages. As a parent, he was left unsatisfied with the many classic versions of the fables because they were stark and not at all interesting to his twins. His motivation for writing this version of the fables is for the next generation of children so that they may benefit from these extraordinary, timeless messages of insight. Vincent Mastro is a father of 19 year old twins. He is a member of the board of directors for TALC, The Adolescent Leadership Council, a not for profit focused on the development of teens with chronic illnesses of all kinds. Vincent Mastro is also a software engineering manager for a fortune 100 company. He has been published multiple times in software industry publications including the prestigious ACM journals.

This first book in a series contains three classic stories retold from a child's perspective. Young Aesop is constantly asking "Why?", but must learn to find the answers on his own. While he may not find the answer to the specific question he was thinking about, Aesop learns valuable life lessons through interactions with the other creatures he encounters during his day. I really like this aspect since it teaches children that answers are not simply given to them - they must seek out their own understanding.

The book is perfectly aimed at young children - the stories are simple to understand and help to foster an inquisitive attitude. The lovely illustrations add just enough detail to allow young minds to fully imagine the scene as the stories play out.

Aesop's 1st Book of Childhood Adventures is a superb addition to your classroom or kids library. Written by Vincent A Mastro, this is a must have and definitely a must read. The illustrations are clear and indeed captivating. The font is a storyteller's delight! The old Aesop fables are explored successfully through the eyes of a young inquisitive raccoon named Aesop. Inspired by his grandmother, young Aesop goes in search of answers to his many questions. This quest for answers permeate each fable as Aesop goes through his life experiences making relevant conclusions. The three fables, The Tortoise and the Hare, The Crow and the Pitcher and the Friends and the Bear in this set are explored in a unique flow of events.I have truly enjoyed reading this book and I recommend that you check it out too! It's an awesome read and your kids will love it too!

The way this book makes the traditional fables tangible to younger kids is amazing. Each story is presented in a way that allows for a real nice discussion with your young one about some of these hard to explain/grasp concepts - perseverance, boasting, true friendship, and hard work. Each one starts and ends the same with a dialogue with Grandma. That serves two purposes for my 3 1/2 yo. daughter: nicely frames each story around Little Aesop's curiosity and sets the stage for precious parent/child discussions afterwards. She can't get enough of this book and I highly recommend it for those parent's looking for something a little more out of a kids book.

This book is what you have been looking for! It is fun to read and beautifully illustrated written in a pleasant way that brings you back to that place we all remember as children. Each adventure keeps you entertained. My seven yr. old loves this book so much. We also read it as a reward for other accomplishments that are not his favorite things to do. It is such a joy just spending time reading together. It is also fun for all reading educational and inspirational books together. We are looking forward to reading each book in this series. This book includes 'The Tortoise and the Hare' which has always been a favorite. With perseverance and hard work slowly you will win the race. 'The Friends and the Bear' about true friends and how they should help you when you need them and the third story 'The Crow and the Pitcher' teaches many different lessons such as charity, friendship and solving life's challenges. Cannot say enough about this truly unique series. Fun and thought provoking for everyone! Thanks Vin! Will be giving these books as gifts too. The time feels right for a fable come back. Perhaps Vincent Mastro's Aesop's 1st Book of Childhood Adventures is that twist needed to bring it to the limelight again. The use of a young raccoon's inquiry and predictable text structure, seamlessly pull the 3 fables together. In a time of rapid movement and demands on young readers, this book could offer a reflective and critical response, reminding readers of those human foundations. As this theme of perseverance threads through the text, it reminds us that through challenges and tangles come great accomplishment and growth. I've always loved The Crow and the Pitcher, so it's inclusion helped persuade my interest in this book too.

I used this book as an introduction to my fable unit in my middle school classroom. Reading the raccoon Aesop's adventures let the children experience and learn the moral as the little raccoon learned it and hurried home to share it with his grandmother. It is a great resource for teachers who are teaching fables to young students. I think it is a must have for any classroom or school library for grades preschool - sixth. It is an excellent book for teaching the common core literature standards. I look forward to the next installment of this new book series in children's literature.

A beautifully illustrated childrens book in which the principal character, a raccoon named Aesop, takes the reader through 3 of Aesop's classic fables.

My son loved having these stories read to him. The author makes it easy for children to grasp tricky concepts such as perseverence and loyalty etc.

A special mention must be made about the beautiful illustrations which make the book a visual delight. The few 'colouring-in' pages for children to decorate on their own was also a lovely surprise.

We loved this book in our home and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
