I know I have said this previously, but it must be repeated--the way Karina describes a location, or a character's outfit is so vivid that when I go to google it it's spot on. I honestly love that in a book it adds to the layers of the story. You know what else I love? Excellent dialogue and After All definitely has that in my opinion. The emotions I went through while reading this book probably would not have happened at the level that they did for me if the dialogue was lacking.
Oh and the chemistry was off the charts, I felt the tension and highly enjoyed the steamy scenes. This story will go on my re-read list for sure.
Thank you Karina for allowing me to read this book before the release!
"The right person might be complicated or simple or both. The right person will find a way to fit into your cracks until you're flush."
These two have chemistry right off the bat, but it's like a love-hate alcohol induced attraction. It was perfect for their personalities. It made them more believable and fun to interact with one another and their banter is off the hook. They've met their match in one another and it's fun to see the sparks fly and for them to fight the obvious feelings they have for one another.
"And the truth is that it's taken a lot for me to realize what's real and what's not. Being an actor, you're used to living in the grey zone, the space where you start to believe your own lies."
So, if you're looking for a fun, sexy and light summer read with great character interaction and development with a bit of heart thrown in, you've gotten the perfect mix with this book. It has fun and believable characters. They make you laugh and want to be friends with them. And their relationship gives you a little look into Hollywood and the grey zone that seems to be created for peering eyes. But there is always heart in the middle of the chaos and fun. Emmett and Alyssa for the win. 4.5 summer read stars!
After All is a standalone but it does give us a little bit of Will and Jackie from Before I Ever Met You. In fact, that is how Emmett and Alyssa met. Though their wedding. Which by the way, was a fun scene. Getting a little bit more of Will and Jackie and then throwing in Emmett and his scandalous mouth was just fantastic.
Emmett has been labeled as the hot-headed playboy. That temper of his just gets the best of him and he's constantly being told that he needs to revamp his image. So when things start to spiral and the media locks on to a shared moment between him and Alyssa, a new plan is formed. She's going to clean up his image. He has the perfect plan for it. What he didn't plan on was how fast and how deep his feelings would go when it came to the blonde spitfire.
I'll admit I'm a book whore. I always swoon for the hero and sometimes really like the heroine. This time, I think I actually fell for Alyssa more than I did Emmett. Don't get me wrong, I throughly enjoyed his dirty mouth. The things he said and did to Alyssa was seriously HOT! I just overall liked Alyssa more. She is stubborn, blunt and feisty. She certainly gives Emmet a run for his money and holds nothing back. Except when her feelings start changing. But that just shows the vulnerable side to her and it makes her more real and honest.
Overall, I had fun with this book. Karina Halle delivers us a fun, witty and true love story at a pace that will keep you emerged.
