Editorial Reviews

Seven college students visit a secluded vacation home to celebrate graduation and become trapped in a deadly game by a mysterious killer. Forced to kill one another by 6 A.M. the following morning, only one of them can remain alive. Whoever remains will be allowed to walk away with his or her life. However, if morning comes and more than one are still breathing, everyone dies. Friends and couples must test their trust, as the clock ticks away. Some will fight for love, some to survive; but all will change, because deep down...we're all killers.

.....that I liked this movie but I did and it was fun while I watched it but sort of evaporates after it's over. It's like Saw but with college kids. The story is a theory of a madman that a group of people when trapped and given an ultimatum that only one of the group will live to be set free and the friends will have to kill each other. And they do, including one guy who's head is pulverized to a bloody pulp by a shovel.

Naturally the friends are in a house miles from the closest town, land-lines and cell-phones don't work but the movie has some clever twists including the friends growing paranoia towards the next one and a few are dispatched by the madman when they attempt to escape. The movie entertains and has some gross but not over-the-top gross kills and is worth a rental-and for someone named Jason out there in Amazonland there are some howlers including Hollywood style shemanigans with a 9MM handgun.

As a gun-owner I know that certain safety rules apply when holding a pistol but there are some hi-jinks with the loaded gun that in the real world would lead to certain injury or death to one of them, and holding the gun with your finger on the trigger while pointing it at an adversary is a Hollywood and tv fiction. You only point a gun at something you intend to destroy. Don't mean to preach but it irks me when I see this.

I was a bit doubtful about this movie. I purchased it on a whim, because I enjoy horror movies and the plot seemed interesting. However, upon reading some of the reviews I regretted my decision. To my surprise, I enjoyed most of the movie.

THE AWESOME
The setting was a perfect choice, as were the props.
THE GOOD
The actors were fairly talented, most of them with experience in other shows and movies. I was also surprised by how attractive they were. The plot was also decent, and I was honestly surprised by who the survivor was, and how they became so.
THE BAD
Those that haven't read the synopsis would probably find it somewhat confusing. Since I did, I understand the beginning pretty well, but my family found it a bit confusing.

There wasn't anything too horrible, or I'm sure that I would've rated lower. The reason that I gave it a 4 was because while there was no one thing that was super horrible, there were a few things that added up. For example, I felt that considering that the climax, and much of the story was strong, the ending seemed to lack the closure that any ending should have.

Overall, I give this movie a grade of a B+/A- (88-90%). Any horror movie fans would enjoy this movie.

This is a solid 3 star release and a respectable contribution to the horror genre. The acting and setting leave nothing to be desired. Also, there aren't a myriad of cheesy one liners. The characters are pretty much stock and behave the way you expect. No real surprises, but not intolerable either.
The premise here is literally "survival of the fittest," "kill or be killed," and as others have noted, it is very much like Saw. It's a slight misnomer to say that it employs a "what would you do" philosophical exploration -- though the film does take a few swipes in that direction. Essentially, it falls short of making you question what you would do because of that old fashioned problem in horror affectionately known as too dumb to live. In other words, the characters spend/waste a lot of time making foolish choices. When they do, they pay for it. Since you know you wouldn't make these obvious errors, you're distracted by them and therefore busy thinking about bad these choices are instead of considering other options. Think of "divide and conquer." It's a cliche carried out in several ways. But this is horror, so we can forgive that right?
There are a few moments that require suspension of disbelief. I won't share them because some are pivotal to the plot. There is one though that I couldn't get over. The whole film basically takes place at the home of one of these rich frat boy-types. The place is gorgeous: multi-level, sprawling grounds, private dock with boat. In the beginning, the film makes a show of demonstrating that they can't get a cell phone signal out in the middle of nowhere. Okay fine. But there's no Internet either? Only one person tries to send a text before the carnage begins. No one tries after and it's as if Internet doesn't exist yet. When was this script written?

Is this guy a mass murderer or a therapist gone MAD. We start out with a psychiatrist telling a patient the conditions for his release. The patient states that he had to do it, he was climbing and they would all fall if he didn't cut his 3 best friends loose. Now he has a house full of kids trapped and telling them only one will leave alive. They must kill each other, he wants to prove that given the right circumstances, everyone would kill to live. You have the usual cast of characters, the noble boy/boyfriend, the town pump, the good girl, the egotistical good looking rich boy, the outsider motorcycle girl and the mewling, crying coward (he is so annoying, I'd have killed him right off) I figured out the ending and so will you but it is pretty good.
