This is a freebie extra that caps off the end of the Search and Rescue series and gives an introductory teaser to the first of the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. I enjoyed how the author divided up the seasons with each former pair of main characters getting their update. Winter has Lou and Callum out on an ice rescue run while Callum figures out how to unfreeze his tongue to pop a question, Ian and Rory fight a fire and then their next fire call leaves Rory gasping with surprise in the Spring, while in the summer, George and Ellie go on a dog-thieving mission before Ellie startles George with some new, and finally the fall brings a near death experience for Chris and Daisy when she proves she can be out in the great big world afterall.
Loved this look-in. It's short. The vignettes only take up a third of the location on my e-reader, but worth snagging for fans of the series. Can't wait to dive into the next series of books set with the K-9 officers of the mountain area.
There's more and better out there, sadly. Maybe in future, Ms. Ruggle will find a staying stride and pull for the long haul.
I can’t say I have a favorite couple or book because each book I was loving the couple and their dynamic. Not only did we see the couple and their relationship (#goals), but each story also slanted towards that rescue career. Meaning Cal had a rescue with Lou, Ian had a fire with Rory, Daniel had a “search” with Ellis, and Chris had police safety work with Daisy!!
A great story, good writing and fun characters! I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Basically what this book comes down to is this…if you enjoyed this series you’ll enjoy getting a peek at where everyone is now. If you haven’t read this series or you (for some reason) wasn’t crazy about the series you probably won’t care about this story.
This has been on Amazon as a free download, so it’s not going to hurt to grab it and check it out.
I really like to read a series where you keep meeting familiar characters, but I always wish for more detail. After the End was a lovely snapshot of life a couple of years on, each couple with their own chapter.
These books were just right for me. Just the right amount of romance. Driven by the characters and their developing relationships. Sweet and a little bit steamy. Crime solving and an ongoing mystery that’s not excessively violent or gory.
Lots of great personalties, and connections. Interactions beteeen characters that ring true. And for an Australian, an interesting peek at what it’s like to live with snow and ice and freezing temperatures for so much of the year!
Thanks Katie. Any time you care to revisit Simpson I’m coming too!
Ps the only thing I didn’t like? TOO SHORT!
