Book 4 of the After series—newly revised and expanded, Anna Todd's After fanfiction racked up 1 billion reads online and captivated readers across the globe. Experience the internet's most talked-about book for yourself from the writer Cosmopolitan called “the biggest literary phenomenon of her generation.”
Tessa and Hardin have defied all the odds, but will their fairy tale ending be turned on its head? AFTER EVER HAPPY...Life will never be the same. #HESSA
It’s never been all rainbows and sunshine for Tessa and Hardin, but each new challenge they’ve faced has only made their passionate bond stronger and stronger. But when a revelation about the past shakes Hardin’s inpenetrable façade to the core—and then Tessa suffers a tragedy—will they stick together again, or be torn apart?
As the shocking truth about each of their families emerges, it’s clear the two lovers are not so different from each other. Tessa is no longer the sweet, simple, good girl she was when she met Hardin—any more than he is the cruel, moody boy she fell so hard for. Tessa understands all the troubling emotions brewing beneath Hardin’s exterior, and she knows she’s the only one who can calm him when he erupts. He needs her.
But the more layers of his past come to light, the darker he grows, and the harder he pushes Tessa—and everyone else in his life—away. Tessa’s not sure if she really can save him—not without sacrificing herself. She refuses to go down without a fight. But who is she fighting for—Hardin or herself?

TESSA
That’s impossible.”
I stand but quickly sit back down on the bench when the grass underneath me seems to sway unsteadily. The park is filling with people now. Families with small children, balloons and presents in their arms despite the cold weather.
“It’s true, Hardin is Christian’s son,” Kimberly says, her blue eyes bright and focused.
“But Ken . . . Hardin looks just like him.” I remember the first time I met Ken Scott, inside a yogurt shop. I immediately knew he was Hardin’s father; his dark hair and his height brought me to the easy conclusion.
“Does he? I don’t really see it, except the hair color. Hardin has the same eyes as Christian, the same facial structure.”
Does he? I struggle to picture the three faces. Christian has dimples like Hardin and the same eyes . . . but it just doesn’t make sense: Ken Scott is Hardin’s father—he has to be. Christian looks so young compared to Ken. I know they’re the same age, but Ken’s alcoholism took its toll on his appearance. He’s still a handsome man, but you can see where the liquor has aged him.
“This is . . .” I struggle for words and air.
Kimberly looks at me apologetically. “I know. I’ve wanted to tell you so bad. I hated keeping this from you, but it wasn’t my place.” She puts her hand on mine and squeezes gently. “Christian assured me that as soon as Trish gave him permission, he would tell Hardin.”
“I just . . .” I take a deep breath. “That’s what Christian is doing? Telling Hardin now?” I stand up again and Kimberly’s hand drops away. “I have to go to him. He is going to—” I can’t even begin to fathom how Hardin will react to the news, especially after finding Trish and Christian together last night. This will be too much for him.
“He is.” Kim sighs. “Trish hasn’t agreed fully, but Christian said she was close enough and things were getting out of hand.”
As I pull out my phone, my only thought is that I can’t believe Trish would hide this from Hardin. I had thought more of her, much more as a mother, and now I feel as if I’ve never met the woman.
My phone is already pressed to my cheek, Hardin’s line ringing in my ear, when Kimberly says, “I told Christian that he shouldn’t separate you two when he told Hardin, but Trish recommended that if he does it, he needed to do it alone . . .” Kimberly’s mouth presses into a hard line, and she looks around the park, then up at the sky.
I reach the dull tone of the automated system on Hardin’s voicemail. I dial again while Kimberly sits silently, only to get his voicemail for the second time. I shove my phone into my back pocket and start wringing my hands. “Can you take me to him, Kimberly? Please?”
“Yes. Of course.” She jumps to her feet, calling for Smith.
Watching the little kid walk toward us with what I can only call a cartoon butler’s stride, it occurs to me that Smith is Christian’s son . . . and Hardin’s brother. Hardin has a little brother. And then I think about Landon . . . what does it mean for Landon and Hardin? Will Hardin want anything to do with him now that he doesn’t have a real family tie to him? And Karen, what about sweet Karen and her baked goods? Ken—what about the man who tries so hard to make up for the terrible childhood of a boy who isn’t his son. Does Ken know? My head is spinning, and I need to see Hardin. I need to make sure that he knows I am here for him, and we will figure this out together. I can’t imagine how he feels right now; he must be so overwhelmed.
“Does Smith know?” I ask.
After a few beats of silence, Kimberly says, “We thought he did because of the way he is with Hardin, but he couldn’t possibly.”
I feel for Kimberly. She already had to deal with her fiancé’s infidelity, and now this. When Smith gets to us, he stops and gives us a mysterious look, as if knowing exactly what we’ve been talking about. That’s not possible, but the way he leaves ahead of us and goes to the car without saying a word, it does make me wonder.
As we drive through Hampstead to find Hardin and his father, the panic in my chest rises and falls, rises and falls. --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

How quickly everything transpired and the rushed time lapse ruined the feel of how the other books prior felt. I'm nervous to read the final book. About to purchase the final book now. I've invested so much time, tears and stress reading this series I have to see how it ends.
“It’s about my journey, after meeting you.”
I am not sure where I even start writing the review for After Ever Happy, book four in the After series by Anna Todd, because to be honest, I am truly a blubbering mess. I had no idea when I started this series just what an effect these two characters would have on me. I fell into a love/hate relationship with them early on and this journey with them has been one hell of a ride.
If you are new to the After series, it is the story of Hardin and Tessa….it is their love story. I am not going to lie and say it was an easy road for these two. Both Hardin and Tessa had so many obstacles to overcome that the fact they even made it to a book four is a testament of their love for each other. For me, the relationship between Tessa and Hardin was one of the most angsty and volatile ones I have read. I am not kidding when I say these two went back and forth, back and forth. There seemed to be very little peace between these young lovers that at times I had to take a break just to regroup because seeing the hurt they were causing each other was tough to read. Anna Todd did an amazing job at capturing the essence of these two and what loving so fiercely at such a young age can be like. I said it in another review of this series, but playing house and grown up isn’t always easy.
There is no denying that Hardin was a broken guy. His upbringing and choices he made throughout his life would make anyone act insane as him sometimes. Everything finally comes to a head in After Ever Happy and we finally get the last of the puzzle pieces that makes Hardin who he is. When circumstances finally give him the clarity he needs to truly fight for Tessa, his time is up. And here is where I have to applaud Anna and her writing. At about 40% of the book, she changes up gears and takes out the fighting factor. She gives Tessa the wherewithal that we have wanted her to have for a long time. Reading Tessa look back over her mistakes and take ownership with her decisions was very enlightening. I truly loved the direction the book took. Hardin now has his “fight or flight” moment and what he chose was such a courageous and mature path, my heart swelled for him. Maturity shines in the last half of this book and it shows that even the most broken of people such as Hardin can make a change.
I had no idea that Anna would take the direction she did in the last half of the book and it was just sheer brilliance in how it ended. Tessa and Hardin would never have made it on the path they were headed down and their lives would have been filled with angst and anger. Hardin was an angry, angry guy coupled with an addiction…he needed to change and Tessa needed to not be his enabler anymore. That is what made this book standout for me….that Anna gave them the coping skills and maturity level to recognize this.
Whenever we as readers invest ourselves in a series, we connect with the characters, we live their lives, we root for them, we mourn with them and most of all we love them. I loved how Anna gave us some flashbacks to some wonderful times in their relationship for us to remember it always wasn’t all fighting. I knew going into this last series it would break me, but I didn’t realize to what extent that would be. I already miss Tessa and Hardin. Throughout over 2000+ pages there was one variable that stayed constant…their love for each other. It was beautiful and tragic at the same time. And the heartache that follows them through life only made that love stronger as time went by. I am not sure what Anna Todd has up her sleeve next, but I will be watching from the stands and cheering her on. 5 #HESSA FOREVER stars for After Ever Happy and the After series!
“I thought that we could make it. I thought ours was a love of the novels, a love that no matter how hard and fast and tough it was, I thought we would survive anything and everything and live to tell the story.”

The only criticism that I have at all is I feel the American author could have done a little more research into British men. Hardin is English and some of the dialogue was too American for me. A British guy would know how to tie a tie.... he’d have worn one in school, and a band-aid would have been a plaster. Hardin didn’t seem English enough sometimes, but this series possessed me so much that I can’t honestly leave anything but five stars. I had days and days of heart pounding pleasure reading these books.

As a fellow contemporary romance author, I get leaving a few teasers in the storyline to pick up in future books but you skipped almost quarter of a century with glaring gaps. Beyond disappointed.
As I had bought it, I started book 5 and quickly gave up - for the record, Ms Todd, racoons would not be rummaging in the trash in Hampstead. I closed my kindle.

I also feel that the story ended when they got to Ken’s house after turning around on the way to Vegas. We all knew they’d end up together, most likely with some kids, so everything after the point they arrived at Ken’s was stuff we all knew would happen. A few short paragraphs skipping over their life from this point could have been so so much more. This was the point where we needed more details, as this was the predictable part. I’m glad I never had to read ‘a breath I didn’t know I was holding’ one more time I suppose.
Overall it was a very good read, but had the potential to be an absolutely amazing read! I’m left needing to know more & having also read book 5, (I wouldn’t bother, makes absolutely no sense & again contradicting to what we’ve already read) I just don’t think I’m left satisfied after being invested through the story.
