As our leading lady and leading man get to know each other and fall in love, it was more like an unraveling of all the social- and social-media constructs Elliot and Mia were wrapped, trapped and tangled in. Pull a thread and watch the spool unravel, revealing who Mia and Elliot are at their cores: strong, yet fragile. Together, Mia & Elliot are a whole, so much greater than the sum of its parts.
I'll pause here, so there are no spoilers. You can press "Play" and enjoy this film for a date-night in, girl's movie night or by yourself. For me, this film adeptly illustrates all the clutter that can keep two people from experiencing what all human beings need the most: an authentic connection and unconditional love. Watching this film with a date would afford you a good conversation starter to pull some threads on your way to a deeper understanding of the person you're with and the heart-and-soul connection we all crave.
Also interesting that the older couples benefit from and contribute to this healthy, forgiving portrait of what it takes to love oneself and another daily. I am a huge Dean Winters fan and he cannot only do no wrong - he does right in ways no other actor ever dreamed. Pause to mention also Mr Bill Sage and Mss Tomei, Gershon and Thorne.....all actors I am happy to see anywhere especially in a New York film.
Bravó to the filmmakers, they are really really on to something.
