As the story continues, we are introduced to the fourth woman that the new planet was created to protect, Valda. Because of the horrible things that were done to her, and others, by her former clan, she's extremely reluctant to even meet her destined mates, even though she knows that she will end up being on the new planet with them soon. For now, she wants to enjoy the time she has at the one place that has ever felt like home, New Orleans.
Like Valda, her mates also have special powers that are not known to many. Owen, his brother Griffin, and their cousins Sar, Ral, Drand, and Burr know what happened to their mate so long ago, but was unable to do anything to stop the attack. They've been linked with her for years, looking for her so that they could love, cherish, and protect her like she deserves, but have been unable to find her.
Finding out that Valda is in immediate danger, they make the decision to bring her to the new planet against her wishes, which only makes it more difficult for her to trust them. Can Valda believe that her mates only have her best interest at heart? Can she learn to trust them enough to give them her heart, and love them in return? With their enemies closing in fast, some known and some not, everyone must trust one another if they have any chance of defeating them.
With a lot of new characters, numerous twists and turns, this story will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. If you haven't read this series, I highly suggest that you start from the beginning. In my opinion, these books are not to be read as stand alone's, and must be read in order for you to fully understand the entire story. Each book is about a group of mates (quantity changes for each one), how they are involved with the others, and usually ends with a HFN type ending. There is a secondary plot regarding the new planet, how it's connected with some of the women, and all of the ways it's changed life for everyone, including those who stayed on earth. There are a lot of different types of shifters, and other beings, included in these stories, but somehow the author has made it seem like they all belong together.
I have been extremely grateful that I have had at least two of these books available to read at a time, because as soon as I finish one, I'm immediately starting the next one. These stories are addictive, I couldn't put any of the books down until I was finished reading it, and only stopped when I had read all that was available. If you're looking for a series that is full of love, romance, extremely hot sexual encounters, humor, intense alpha males, mystery, danger, suspense, and that will keep you intrigued from beginning to end, then this is the perfect series for you! You won't be disappointed!
I strongly recommend this book, series, and fantastic author.
I have voluntarily reviewed this complimentary vopy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
I am getting the hang of all the people in this series and I love reading how interconnected the women and the men are. I like that there are different relationship concepts in each pairing and that its not cookie cutter. Non of this story is, and I think that's why I enjoy it so much.
The characters are unique. I love that Ms. Blacio went down a different shape shifter path with Yeti/Bigfoot. It worked wonderfully here in this story. The six men are after Valda who they know is their mate. They know that she has been hurt in the past by Helliokillers and are racing to find her before they get their hands on her again.
Valda thinks all the males of her species are incapable of being tender and sweet, and her men are out to prove her wrong. I really liked watching their interactions and how they treat Valda. Mistakes are a given in any relationship but watching all 7 wade through these murky waters was intriguing and entertaining.
As with the other books we see the other women and their men pull newcomers in and make a place for all goodhearted people on the new planet/ship. Ms. Blacio shows that there are all sorts of personalities, and they all work together to create this unique place.

In After Dark on Bourbon Street, Book Eight of #1 best-selling Amazon Romance writer Trinity Blacio’s futuristic Running in Fear series, we meet Valda Sart, a unique creature in this new world.
Valda hated being a Skunk Ape --a Bigfoot, a Yeti by another name. But she was no ordinary Skunk Ape. Valda had gifts and kept them hidden. But now someone was hunting her, and she knew it was only a matter of time before they caught her. The six men of her pack, the ones she'd been promised to, the ones who would not give up on her, were determined to claim her.
Her only option to keep her only freedom was to use her gift and blend in with the world around her. Hiding among the humans, she realized how much her life had sucked before she’d forged this new one in New Orleans. Here in the city, she had friends, and men who actually talked to her and courted her.
But for the last six years something had been pulling at her. It was only a matter of time before she, too, would have to join Jaycee, Suzanne and Lissa on the new planet. Even in her dreams she'd seen the new, beautiful world, and the wonderful and terrible beings already living there.
How can they ask her to give up romance, love and friends? Didn't they know what it would mean if this group of men found her?
I am unsure how to rate this book, the eighth in the Running in Fear series. As always the book as a whole delivered a great story but there are two parts where I felt Trinity Blacio took the easy way out and cheated the reader of an explanation and a build up to the solving of a situation. One towards the beginning and a second shortly thereafter. I was happy that she showed the flaws in the individuals and that Velda's pain, anger and fears of two of her mates were justified. As was her upset with her father. In so many ways this was one of the most intriguing and well plotted in the series. I just felt it had the potential to be the best. Whether time constraints or page limitations is the reason it is more than worth your time to read and catch up on old friends and meet some new wonderful character that arrive to enrich the story even more.
I am very much looking forward to seeing where this story goes next.
My rating of "After Hours on Bourbon Street - Running in Fear Book 8" is 4.25 out of 5 stars.
