Little River Band's 2nd LP, "After Hours", was not released in the United States in 1976: the band's U.S. label, Capitol, rejected the album because it wasn't "commercial". Instead fans in America would have to wait for LRB's 3rd LP, "Diamantina Cocktail" (also released in '76), for the follow up to their debut. But when "Diamantina Cocktail" was released by Capitol it was NOT the same LP that had been released in Australia. Only four tracks from the Australian version ("Help Is On Its Way", "Home on a Monday", "The Inner Light", and "Happy Anniversary") were included, while the rest was comprised of slightly reworked, polished, and, in some cases, abbreviated versions of tracks from the original "After Hours" release ("Days on the Road", "Everyday of My Life", "Broke Again", "Another Runaway", and "Take Me Home"). It was this reworked version that provided LRB with their first big break in the U.S. with the help of the singles "Happy Anniversary" and "Help Is On Its Way", and it was this album that first got my attention.

After Hours wouldn't see a release in the U.S. until 1980 - after the release of the two albums that brought LRB HUGE success (1978's "Sleeper Catcher" with "Reminiscing" and "Lady" and 1980's "First Under the Wire" with "Lonesome Loser" and "Cool change" - both available again in this companion set: Sleepcatcher / First Under the Wire) and then as an odd collection because, apart from a live version of "Days on The Road" and the non-LP single "Long Jumping Jeweler", the 1980 release was made up of the 9 tracks that were originally rejected by Capitol when the US version of "Diamantina Cocktail" was put together.

Grew up enjoying Little River Band's music on albums and tapes. Had this Australian import album of After Hours I found at Peaches a long time ago. It was my second favorite of theirs (still loved their first album the best) after purchasing it as a cheap cut out. After Hours was always a hard one to find from them. VERY glad to see in 2013 that its been released on CD with another fav of mine Diamantina Cocktail. These two long favorites of mine in one package!! I could not wait to get this in my CD player. I am more a fan of the whole album than just the hits. This import package sounds amazing for its age. These two recordings from the '70s never sounded better to this early LRB fan. Not much hiss, just wished their was more bass. Maybe it was recorded this way. But hearing the highs on these recordings (always felt vinyl sounded flat) really put a smile back on my face. Have not been able to listen to After Hours for many years (my LP does not exist anymore and don't think their record label released it here in the states) and I love it even more here on this two CD set. And the price is great, too for this import.
Glad to see Little River Band's early work getting released on CD after all these years.

I have been an LRB fan ever since I first saw them in concert in 1977. They are one of the most underated bands of all time & this 2-album set will surely please all avid LRB fans. As predecessors to LRBs later more famous works, you will hear all original band members play such classics as "Happy Anniversary" & "Help is on its way" on the album "Diamantina Cocktail"..the originaly more popular of these 2 albums. But take a listen to "After Hours". Much more raw in its format, "After Hours" is very similar to LRBs prior self-titled album; "The Little River Band" that really launched their career world-wide. Especially take a listen to "Days on the Road" & "Bourbon Street" on "After Hours". So tightly-woven with perfect pop melodies, excellent instrumentation, & supurb singing, that you will long for finding more music from this great band from down-under. Also, given that the band has seen several of its members come & go throughout the years, this original line-up which included Beeb Birtles, Graham Goble, & Glenn Shorrock is still best if you are looking for that classic LRB sound that we all learned to love in the 70s. So rush out & buy this 2-CD set while its still available..and it will take you back to a time when rock music was still at its peak...just before the Disco craze took over.
