"Provocative summer read"
Kindle Nation Daily Review:
"I suspect there are a good many of ourreaders who like myself savored the pleasures, on the screen or on the printedpage, of John Berendt's Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The prose waselegant, the story was gripping, and both book and film were so richlyevocative of one of my favorite cities -- what was not to like? Yet even afterall of that, after all of the seductive, artful presentation of JimWilliams/Kevin Spacey, Danny Hansford/Jude Law, Lady Chablis/Lady Chablis, JohnCusack's narrator, and more, weren't you left hanging just a bit? Didn't youwant to get closer to the truth, at long last, closer than Hollywood orBerendt's atmospherics allowed? I did, but I never thought I'd get there untilI learned about and read Marilyn Bardsley's remarkably well-told exposition ofthe truth of the matter and the evidence behind the intrigue. It was a treatfor me, and one that could be consumed in a single satisfying sitting, so it isonly right that I should share it here with you. Enjoy. Your questions will beanswered, and you may discover both an author and a series to which you willwant to return in Marilyn Bardsley and RosettaBooks' Crimescape series, forwhich she is the editor." -SteveWindwalker.

I have always had a penchant for the "aura" of New Orleans society, I am a big fan of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" and had hoped that this book would be a continuation in the same vein as the first story. Personally, I did not find this to be true. The author wrote quite a bit about Danny Hansford's upbringing but I didn't find the information to be new or intriguing. There was quite a bit of quoted pages of testimony/arguments provided so if that is what you like to read this may the book for you. I prefer cultural nuances and did not find it in this book.

I received this book and began reading it, only to discover that the writing is truly substandard. The whole thing reads like it was cobbled together from various Internet forum posts, and, given the fact that the author was/is a former writer for a true crime blog, that comes as no surprise.
I did, however, learn a few new things about the case and the people involved. But don't expect to read a book on par with the excellent writing found in John Berendt's "Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil."

THIS was what I had hoped to read with Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
Unlike the other one, this book concentrates on the Mercer House murder and trials following. She concentrated on facts by actually interviewing those involved. She spoke with people who prosecuted, defended and knew Jim Williams. She was able to incorporate actual trial testimony and closing arguments.
This author also gave closure to the story. What happened after the Williams trial. Yes, I knew some of it from the other book, but this one didn't come across as fantasy. A good read if someone wants to know about this murder and trial.

I found the backgrounds of Danny and Jim to be interesting. It's so sad that a man with Jim's abilities became so obsessed with an obvious psychopath. That became the Evil in the Garden! Jim probably would have gone to prison for his dishonesty with clients if he didn't have friends in high places. The book has an overall view of all that led up to the murder, discrepancies at the crime scene, and the four trials with a final resolution. The author gives her opinion about the night of the crime and the reader gets to speculate also. Too bad the forensics we have today weren't available then.

It is interesting to read more about what happened in the true story of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" and this little book makes for good reading.
The original book relates the story of an entrepreneur in Charleston, his life and his death. This book expands on the original, and offers additional insight into the events in Charleston, especially ivludoing the trial of the entrepreneur.
It's a quick read and I believe that people who enjoyed "Midnight ... " will enjoy this.

Well written about an involved situation/people/crime. Gives one an understand of the setting and society of the story and the people involved. The personalities are developed enough to understand their perceptions and actions. The aftermath of the crime shows the results of actions that the judicial system tries to address and the media exploits so that there is a failure of society to be protected. Well presented and thoughtfully written.

This was a fascinating read. While the other was a work of art, this book deals with the facts of the crime and the details of the four trials. I would recommend it to whomever would like to have a closer look at the relationship, the crime itself, and the trial details.

Great follow up to original book. More information to allow readers to make up their minds about Jim Williams. Personally I feel it was an act of self defense not a premeditated murder. Mr. Williams was unfairly tried by a zealous prosecutor. Many times the obvious is not dramatic enough so the lies get told and the web of deceit grows while lives get ruined. Was Mr Williams a saint? Hell no, but Danny was a monster.

This is a super quick read - but it's nice to have a little more background on the Hansford case and it's players, especially the shady dealings in the antique world. Worth it if you're a true crime fan or loved Berendt's book/the movie.
