About the Author
Becky Sansbury connects people to hope. She has spent decades doing that professionally and a lifetime doing that naturally. Now she is expanding that connection through her book, After the Shock: Getting You Back On The Road To Resilience When Crisis Hits You Head On (Real Life Communication, 2015).
Becky’s lengthy career as a hospice chaplain, followed by work with professionals in career crisis, provided the clinical basis for this book. Her personal journey through multiple miscarriages, a young husband’s stroke, two marriages, single parenthood, and eventual family reconciliation validated the process she developed.
A seminary graduate and ordained minister, Becky considers the less-traveled road her favorite path. Serving patients and families through a community hospice, she discovered resilient and flourishing people when society would assume the opposite. Concluding that career to serve as a caregiver in her own family, Becky applied principles she learned when she sat on the other side of the bed. After a recession gripped the USA in 2008, Becky joined a team serving professionals stripped of their jobs through no fault of their own. She saw the same resilience-building principles in the attitudes and actions of many of her clients.
With her theories confirmed, Becky wrote After the Shock to serve as a handbook and virtual support for anyone in crisis or walking alongside someone in crisis. She speaks to organizations where bad news is often the order of the day. Becky sheds light on the confusion of crisis and provides effective ways to replace loss with resilience.
Becky lives in Raleigh, NC; but she spends an increasing amount of time in Austin, TX, home of her children and grandson.

There is so much more to this book than ‘empathy’ or ‘sympathy’ in times of loss. Sansbury actually has created a fresh and truly helpful approach to help the griever and the support community find some control, work through the grief, and come out the other side of this journey. I highly recommend this book.
