Product Description

Product Description

The AFTERGLOW family of controllers breaks new ground in form, features, and radiant aesthetics, delivering gamers an experience sure to have them glowing. The appearance of the AFTERGLOW controllers is defined by clear a polycarbonate body plastic, within which red, blue, or green circuit boards and components reside. Amplifying the theme, multitudes of LEDs within the controllers glow in hues matching the circuit board color. The result is a truly vibrant glow in both light and dark gaming situations. The AFTERGLOW AP.1 for the PS3 features L2 and R2 triggers modeled upon PDP’s popular REAL TRIGGERS add-ons for PS3 controllers. It also provides a refined analog stick location similar to the Xbox 360 style analog stick placement for FPS advantage with an ergonomically modeled grip built for comfort and competition. Each AFTERGLOW controller allows the player to adjust the LED settings to: on, off, or vibration (activates when controller rumble motors spin).

From the Manufacturer

Back By Popular Demand! PDP's line of 2nd Gen. Afterglow Controllers will light the way to higher scores, unbeatable performance, and an enhanced sense of game play that only PDP can deliver. Each controller casing is built using the best available Poly Carbonate plastic to ensure extraordinary strength, crystal clear visibility to the internal LED's and color coded circuit boards. PDP's Controllers are tough as nails and as cool as the other side of the pillow. 3 LED modes let you choose your pleasure - "On" for constant glow effect, "Off" for those of us with no sense of adventure - Why? Lastly, the ever popular acceleration and vibration mode - lighting the room with the vibrancy of a swarm of angry fireflies only when the controller is swung or shaken, or when the vibration motors are activated. Color coded circuit boards highlight the 3 currently available colors: Ruby Red, Blue Velvet and Green W/Envy - which is what all your friends will be when you mesmerize them with your Afterglow Controllers in action.

Afterglow AP.1 Controller for PS3

The Perfect L2 and R2 Triggers

If you have a PS3 and you shop on Amazon - Hey nothing gets by us…..You probably know how cool PDP's REAL TRIGGERS are! If not, where the heck have you been? So - the REAL TRIGGER feature built into the Afterglow Controller for PS3 is a very SMALL modification with a very BIG implication. The L2 and R2 buttons kick forward just a bit giving you optimized leverage on the buttons providing you with a huge advantage over your adversary - even if it's you and your high score.

Optimized Analog Stick Placement

They say "location" is everything - - PDP thought that PS3 gamers might engage in some FPS (That's First Person Shooter - get it?) activities. If that's the case and it probably is - why in the heck wouldn't you want 360' style analog placement? Well - - we knew you would and that’s why we placed the analog stick in a XB 360' format style.

Competition Style Grip

What a beauty - See!

I grew up playing Xbox 360 and let me tell you, holding a sony ps3 controller when you've been used to the Xbox 360 controllers you will notice everything wrong with them in 5 minutes or less. Let me explain this: The joysticks on Sony controllers are waaay too sensitive and have barely any tightness to them, horrible for call of duty games which require quick reactions. The triggers are shaped outward, your fingers will slip off constantly in driving and shooting games. It feels skimpy in your hands, it does not fill your hands like the 360 controller does. The joysticks are also shaped outwards, no place to put your thumbs into. I can go on and on about the design failure that the Sony brand ps3 controllers are. This controller solves all of these issues. Tight joysticks, curved triggers, ergonomic joystick setup ( one up high on the left like the 360), joysticks have thumb holes, it fills your hands much better than those Sony controllers will, and to top it off it has LED lighting inside. Yes this one is wired (there are wireless ones in this same setup, minus the cord obviously) but I will not ever use any other controller for my ps3 other than an afterglow. I am not a Xbox fanboy or a Sony hater, I just know a good controller when I see one.

Good controller....cool blue lights which can be set for vibration only, on all the time , or off. The controls are a little bit different and the controller is a little bit smaller. No wireless. But here's the one problem: in games like Killzone 2 or Call of Duty, the six-axis controller is needed. In other words, there are some moves that involve twisting or shaking the controller ( to arm bombs or open valves, etc, etc. ) which this controller is not capable of doing. You have to stop the game and connect the Sony controller to proceed. If I had realized this problem at the time of purchase, I would not have bought it. I would have paid more money for this feature if it was offered, because I like the blue led's and the feel of the controller. I am somewhat disappointed. You get what you pay for.

I bought this controller anxiously waiting to play games like Max Payne 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Just Cause 2 on my PC. I know XBOX D-pads are not that good, and I decided to get the PS3 one instead. However, when I tried to play these games, I realized that they were ported from XBOX 360, and since Microsoft loves money and Rockstar is not good at porting, I had no way to play with the controller. The only thing possible was MotioninJoy, and one has to have a PS3 controller with a Bluetooth adapter. This controller does not offer that, so I'm returning it. However, I did play some emulated games with it, and it works fine. If you're just a brute, I'm sure it will break- so will the expensive ones. I no problems with dead zones, triggers, or connections, so if you just need to replace a controller for your PS3, this works JUST FINE. And it's pretty.

I bought this product because I go through a lot of controllers due to the fact that I am an angry gamer, so I was looking for a cheap controller that I could easily replace every few months without spending north of $50 for a licenced one. I've previously owned an Afterglow wireless controller for $30 and that was by far the closest thing I've found to fully functional cheap controller. However, with no way to plug the controller into the console the battery cost made me look for this product. I assumed that the lower price tag was due to the wiring and that the quality would be similar... It is not even close! Like most off brand controllers the joystick sensitivity is terrible which was not an issue with the wireless version. Its over sensitive and stiff somehow at the same time. If you've ever bought an off brand controller before its probably the same. The wireless version of this is so much better if you don't mind batteries!

We needed a new PS3 Controller, but didn't trust the 10 dollar wireless ones, and didn't exactly have 40 dollars to spare. The Controller is a tad smaller than the regular DualShock3. but feels good in the hand. The lighting effect is very bright, and may bother some people. The analog sticks aren't as sensitive as the original ones, and snap back into place as soon as you let go. The controller also doesn't have SixAxis, and if you use this controller in a game that doesn't support it, it may cause problems, like in GTA IV, the bikes would have maximum steering lock to one side. The controller isn't that durable, as I believe on the 2nd drop, the LP button broke. It still works, but the plastic button and silicone dome are nowhere to be found. i'd only recommend this controller, or the Rock Candy (Also made by PDP) as a backup, or maybe to play some PS1 or PS2 games(if you have a fat, or PS2 classics)

I purchased this controller after owning one for the original Xbox years ago. Unfortunately, this controller is not the same.

The major flaw in this controller are the joysticks. The left joystick is only capable of interpreting four directions, meaning you cannot move forward and strafe at the same time. Pushing diagonally results in a forward motion or a sideways one, but never both.

The right joystick has a large dead zone. This makes precision movements, such as aiming in FPS, impossible. Move the joystick slightly and nothing happens. A little more, nothing still. More, and suddenly the movement is huge and your crosshairs are way off.

If it wasn't for those joysticks, it would be great. Stiff button clicks, great Xbox-style joystick placement, PDP's awesome trigger systems, and bright, crystal clear blue LEDs. Unfortunately, the joystick problem makes the controller unusable for me since I mostly play FPS and racing games, and the faulty aiming/inability to steer makes the games unplayable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kein Wireless
Reviewed in Germany on October 31, 2013
Bitte Beschreibung aktualisieren.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellente manette
Reviewed in France on October 20, 2012

5.0 out of 5 stars El mejor mando de terceros
Reviewed in Spain on October 27, 2013

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING CONTROLLER AND REALLY CHEAP!!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 9, 2013
this is an amazing controller and does the job to perfection, i have played CoD and FIFA with it and haven't had any problems at all, i would even go as far as to say that it is better than the standard dualshock and sixaxis standard controller that are priced around £30 - £40 brand new, the LED lights are really good and cool, it looks AMAZING AT NIGHT, and if the LED lights are too bright for your eyes (in which i have seen complaints in some of the other customer reviews that i read) you can just turn it off by the button at the back of the PDP controller, i would recommend you try this, some of the other customer reviews that i read, put me on the edge a little bit, however i am so glad that i had not listened to them because this controller is very responsive, comfortable triggers are better than the standard sixaxis ones when shooting on CoD and is just, in my opinion... AMAZING
