The plot is rather simple so far. The action scenes aren't bad, but the romance is rather weak. I enjoy Paranormal books, but for some reason this series just isn't grabbing me. I am not invested in the story enough, so I'm not sure if I'll continue. For me, it was just "OK".
It has a bit of everything you usually want from a book, the hero (humble and heroic all at once) , the heroine (strong and soft all at once), the tragedy to motivate the characters and emotionally grab the reader and let us not forget the "big evil thing". The you throw in some romance and poof, you got the great book that Afterglow was for me.
Rand has finally got a hint of where to find one of 3 vampires he needs to kill, the story to get to that point is great, the lady on the train was a nice touch (you got to read it to understand). The romance was a good way to soften the book a bit BUT I hate endings like this. It is and is not a cliffhanger since the main thrust of this book was accomplished but to leave us like that was evil :)
I guess I will just have to wait like everyone else and grab book #3 soon as it comes out. 5 Stars even though I want to hit something about now LOL
