The author has few words to describe his powerful images of the day and the days after 9/11. The book is an amazing album of black and white photos. Words aren't necessary as the reader becomes the observer of those brave first responders who chose to do the right thing at great risk to themselves by searching and digging for survivors then eventually victims in the lung burning, toxic atmosphere of smokey, burning fumes and ash. The author along with his bretheren become victims themselves as they power through the ordeal hoping that they find survivors or document those that didn't. The images are taken and produced in black and white which further convey one of if not the darkest event to happen in the continental U.S. Each time I go through the book, I seem to find new details that I passed over before. I managed to locate and purchase through an Amazon seller a new, leather bound, gilded edged, gold lettered, linen lined edition that makes a perfect coffee table centerpiece for family, friends and guests to read and look through. Whether you get the soft cover or hard cover, the pictures still convey the story of those unselfish, heroic first responders including the author that must be remembered.

Aftermath is moving piece of work

I have a number of 9/11 photo books. I found that Mr. Botte's images were far more powerful and more real than most. His images are amazing and he deserves the credit for seeing the images in the event. He is also a victim of that day, and in light of his medical problems resulting from his days on the 'pile', his life will no doubt be cut short for his experiences. So, from that point of view, his book is one of the few from the perspective of the victims. He speaks for the dead and the dying. His pictures will carry his memory. Thank you, Mr. Botte, for the memories. May we never forget.

Very good book that recorded history

I got this as a gift to my daughter who was just 2 when the events of 9/11/01 occurred. She reads the book with a tender heart and is sad to read about this historical event that happened in 2001. She keeps it in a special place on her bookshelf and makes sure she sees it every day.

Why The Bad Press?

After viewing all of this books photos and reading the captions and liner notes I find it difficult to understand why this author is being chastised in the press. It seems that the author was not just chronicling the tragic events of 9/11 but was an active participant in the recovery effort who sacrificed his own health in an unselfish manor. Future generations will be able to understand the scope of this tragedy and the emotions and sacrifices of the rescue workers because of Mr. Botte's photos. If Mr. Botte is wrongfully accused of publishing this book for personal gain then Hollywood and the news media should be judged in the same light when they profit from theater sales or increased Nielsen ratings. How many producers or directors can claim that they paid a personal price on 9/11.
