Product Description

Size: 50 Count

AgaMatrix WaveSense Presto made by AgaMatrix Inc. is a next generation blood glucose monitoring system that uses dynamic electrochemistry to achieve highly accurate results. The accuracy requirement is that for readings greater than or equal to 75 mg/dL, a glucose meter needs to be within +/- 20% of the laboratory reference 95% of the time. That means that if a meter says 300 mg/dL the actual reading could be anywhere from 240 mg/dL to 360 mg/dL; that’s a 120mg/dL margin of error! In a clinical study, WaveSense Presto has gotten excellent accuracy results, with 93% of its readings within +/- 10% of the laboratory reference – check out our website for more information at www.wavesense.info/data. WaveSense does this by using a new technology that corrects for common sources of error that make blood glucose measurements inaccurate. So if you want a meter that is low cost, highly accurate and has a lot of the premium features in the market, choose AgaMatrix WaveSense Presto - Accuracy. Value.

I bought this meter and the strips because the strips are cheap and the meter is supposed to very accurate, however when I have tested with this meter and simultaneously with two other meters I get erratic results with the Wavesense. The other two meters are an Accu Chek Aviva and a One Touch Ultra Smart, and normally they are about 10 to 15 points apart. But the Wavesense meter gives results that are all over the map, and I can do tests with the Wavesense only a minute or two apart and get results that vary by 30 or 40 points. The strips are cheap, and you get what you pay for.

I have had this meter for a few months and found that when adequate blood is provided it is accurate. I did a test and then drove to the doctors and had a blood test and there was only 2 points different between this meter's testing and the results from the blood test.

I will say that if you don't get enough blood absorbed, it will go ahead and give you a result. This result typically will be high in that case (not enough blood). For example I pricked my finger and could only push out a small drop, but went ahead and absorbed the blood. It did look like the strip was filled OK and it did register results with no error, results came out to 165. I immediately pricked a different finger and was able to push out a bigger drop, I tested with that and got under 140.

So, I just make sure that if I can't get a good sized pool of blood to test, because I didn't make a good prick, I just make another prick where I can get a good sized pool of blood.

It would be nice if the meter could identify a "too small sample" situation and error, but it typically hasn't been a problem to get a good prick that produces enough blood for a good reading. So, I don't really consider this a problem with the meter so much as my own technique. I only had this problem a few times.

It's also a bummer that there isn't a way to remove any bad readings you may get from the history. If you are tracking averages over time it could throw your stats off a bit. Also, when I first got it of course everyone in the family wanted to check their levels and there isn't a way to throw out individual readings since they aren't yours. So, you just have to wait a few months for those readings to get dropped.

I bought the Presto Test Strips to use with an UP and UP Blood glucose meter sold by Target for $9.00. These are the same strips sold as UP and UP test strips sold for $12.00 more for a hundred. They are the 1st of 2 boxes I bought in less than a day of each other and was received 2-9-2013. The exp date on these are 12-2013 and the 2nd box received on Mon 2-11-2013 was 10-2013. So I will be using the 2nd box first. I am trying to find the find the cheapest, but best alternative for accuracy to the expensive One Touch Ultra test strips used in One Touch Meters. My insurance is useless for its coverage of Diabetic supplies. These strips will save me at least $84.00 over store prices and $300.00 on the other brand of strips on line and twice that of Pharmacy prices.

I like this product because I feel it gives me the most accurate results for an inexpensive meter. I use a target meter and they don't carry the test strips in a store near me nor do they ship them because apparently target doesn't really care about the health of their customers. These strips are compatible with target meters and deliver accurate results. They are also compatible with Kroger meters.

This is the best price I've found for glucose test strips for any model of meter. When you need to test frequently, it's outrageous to have to pay $40+ for 50 test strips. The Presto WaveSense is easy to use. Previously I could only find them at Wal-Mart and they were frequently out of stock. I was very pleased to find that I can order via Amazon at a lower cost.

These are less expensive than buying the test strips at Kroger.

One odd thing about this meter and these strips is that they are more sensitive to cold than other brands. I keep my house cool in the winter in the traditional manner, meaning I wear sweaters and slippers around the house, and my hands will get cold when working at my desk for long periods. With these strips and the compatible meter, I will often get an error indicating that the temperature is too low. I have to heat up my hands by moving around to get my circulation going, rubbing them together, or holding a warm beverage before testing.

I have a target brand onsync meter. Unfortunately, target no longer carries strips since they changed over pharmacies. These work fine with my meter, and are actually cheaper than buying at target. The meter itself is very simple, and very consistent with readings. The strips use 0.3micro liters which is about the smallest sample size you can find in meters. I rarely get error codes with these, even if I don't seem to get enough on the strip. I almost cried when I found out target stopped selling my strips, cause I really love this meter and didn't want to have to buy another.

Difficult to say you "love" diabetic test strips! Not much about diabetes I 'love'! Having said that, we all know we need to purchase supplies often, and they can be very expensive. I was using the Freestyle Lite, and I have to say, for ease of use, it was about the best. As for the pocketbook, the test strips were very expensive. I did some research, and found the WaveSense was much more affordable in the way of test strips. To be able to purchase 100 test strips for just under $23.00 was doable for us. I don't use their lancets. I use BD brand lancets. I like the 33 gauge. They don't seem to hurt as much, and you can use them on many of the devices. I guess I have taken the long way around the barn to say that these test strips work well, and I have had no trouble with them at all.
