Against All Odds starts on a high note, and the excitement builds from there. The adventures in Brazil seemed to be the end of Jake and Alex. The description of the UFO leaving earth was excellent. The realization of what left earth with the departure of the ship made me wonder if everyone was going to die!
A literature teacher told me once upon a time that the ability to create new names was a hallmark of a superior writer. New name created in the book: "Gualu"...a character to be admired.
As Jake and Alex return to the states the tension grows, and grows. How many tragedies and problems can one family endure? Apparently many challenges. And through all the problem one thing shines through clearly: love. Love for family, love for their home, and a deep patriotic feeling.
In fact it is the love story that is woven throughout all 7 books that make this an outstanding series. Yes, it's still an adventure novel, and a science fiction novel, and a spy novel, a conspiracy novel, a highly technical novel, and through it all a love story.
Slipped into the book is the information that Francesca is newly pregnant...just that one little mention...and that gives me hope that even though the Brainrush series is complete, are there more adventures awaiting the Bronson family?
My favorite quote in the book (that sums up the constant thread) "If not for love, what would humanity look like today? Would violence still permeate your planet?"
Jake and the gang went through a lot together. From saving the world to being marked as terrorist. Jake was wanted as a Global Terrorist and a price on his head, literally.
I won't give anything away in this book but you have to read it if you have read the other books in this series. This has been one hell of a ride from start to finish. From the killing of so many innocents to the heroes who saved the USA from certain destruction. Even throw in a few aliens and yes I mean outer space aliens. From being labeled a Global terrorist to a hero Jake Bronson always saves the day. He puts his life on the line and has even given it up a time or two. But you just can't keep a good guy down long.
His friends and family worked hard together to just be a normal family. I hope they have finally found that.
I hated so bad for this series to end. I am hoping that future books my Mr Bard include Jake and Alex and others so we can keep up with them.
I have laughed, cried and cringed reading this series. It's been a few years from start to finish but the final book was totally worth waiting for. It's awesome, wonderful. One you will keep with you for a while. Makes you think about how things can happen too. At least it does for me.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review and I've tried hard to give it justice. There is so much that can be said about this book and the series but you have to read them for yourself to truly appreciate it all.
I loved it so much. Thank you Richard Bard for writing such a wonderful story. All of your fans loved it. I know that in my heart. Wonderful job. This series should be made into a movie. I am so series. It should be. It's that good...
I read the first book and immediately tossed it at my book club. So, Richard got 7 women on his side (or in his corner) instantly.
I talked to them, and yes, their sleep patterns were hindered because of NOT WANTING to put the book down.
Each book. Every book. Brought the Bronson family and friends to life. Following them and crossing your fingers that they would get through the next chapter.
Yes there are losses. A friend or family member..... But then you find yourself cheering them on and holding your breath as you read.
I actually started this book, had to stop as I had a 3 hr drive. (yes, I was thinking of pulling the book out, attaching my Kindle to the phone holder and.... But did not. I got to my destination and read until my eyes blurred. Got up at 7am and finished the book.
It was a rewarding feeling.
I did not feel let down. I did not feel 'OH darn. It is over.' Nope.
I felt that I got to see a family , a group of friends, make it to another point in their lives.
OH. Did you think I was going to give you a 'tidbit'? Nope. You will have to read it yourself!!!!!
Good Job Richard!
