Emma Jackson is an army wife and new mom with all the uncertainties that come with it… until that fear is pushed in a different direction. Instead of worrying about diapers and feeding schedules, her only objective is to keep her child alive after being chased by a man who looks entirely too dead. Trish Walsh thought her day was bad when she had to drag all four of her children on an errand, but she rethinks the meaning after what she can only hope was someone dressed up like a zombie beats on her car door. Yet, the bloody mess left behind is anything but reassuring.Cooper Walsh’s job is top secret. When criminals break in to steal his company’s secrets, he overhears the conspiracy devised to create chaos as a cover-up. Knowing he must do everything in his power to right the wrong, he sets out on a mission.Surviving long enough to reunite with their families is all that matters. That… and stopping the zombie apocalypse before it destroys them.
It’s a character driven story, with well-rounded characters. I especially loved Emma. There was a real down to earth tone in the narrative that served to make it all the more terrifying when they start to realize what is going on.
I would certainly recommend this with the note that there is a cliffhanger. I am looking forward to finding out what happens next.
And not a complete story. Just the first entry in a series. Which I'll not be continuing.
Trish and Cooper Walsh have been preparing for an apocalypse for a very long time. So when her husband calls her and tells her to put their plan in place and take the kids to her sister’s farm she doesn’t hesitate not especially after the day she has had and what she saw while in town with her four kids.
Cooper is supposed to meet them there but he gets held up just as he is leaving his office. Someone has broken into his office with intentions of stealing all of his company’s secrets. Cooper must stop them from being able to accomplish what they came there for. As far as Trish and the world knows Cooper is an IT guy but as we learn this is not the case. No what Cooper does is very top secret.
I love me some zombies and I loved following along with these two mothers on their journeys with their children trying to keep them safe and away from the zombies. Emma and Trish may think that they would never be any good in a fight or especially up against zombies but when it comes to you and their children you might what to get out of their way cause they gonna mow you down. I can’t wait to read more about Emma and Trish and all their children. I would also like to know more about the Jackson Clan and about Trish’s sister too and what about Cooper and his job?
Moms Against Zombies is a great story for anyone who loves a good zombie story.
This story is grounded in more reality than any zombie book I’ve read.
Moms against Zombies is a complex tale of various families dealing with something out of the twilight zone: real Zombies are invading the country and multiplying in horrific speed. So the various families try to move to a more isolated place to survive the apocalypse.
While some believed it a hoax, hired actors dressed as zombies, so thieves could steal valuable data, matters quickly prove it is a real viral contagion. (As in REALITY BITES!)
When the mothers realize something isn’t right, and sluggish people are creeping them out, they grab their kids and drive home. And while the cities are trying to downplay the event, the disturbances they’ve seen with their own eyes, and calls from their husbands send them in hyper-protect-the-children mode, and they head to more isolated areas.
Lesson to learn: Don’t get between a mom and her children. She will protect them with lethal force. It doesn’t matter if you are a zombie or a living human who just wants to rob her of the items she needs to keep her children safe. Either way, she will fight back.
Honestly, this was an engaging, well written, and a realistic scenario of a viral contagion that takes over a body in seconds. And as in common in real life, the ‘truth’ keeps changing as well, as they dig deeper and learn more about their situation.
But be warned, this book seems to stop mid-story with the promise of the conclusion coming in the next book.
Due to the lack of an ending, I can’t give it more than four stars right now. It was well written, amazingly authentic, but it is incomplete. However, I look forward to book 2 to find out what actually has happened and hopefully get an HEA.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
