Portable saws always require a trade-off between size, weight, function, and ease of use. You have to choose your priority. This saw does an excellent job of meeting certain needs while making no compromise.

The "no compromise" means that it is a bit on the large side. If you demand small and light, you won't find it here. The return is that:

* You get a saw that folds up about as small as one can expect for a blade this long.
* It's about as light as it can get for a saw this sturdy.
* It unfolds & folds quickly and easily and you can do so without ever touching the blade.
* The blade is... what's a good word.... dangerous. It just wants to rip something to shreds.

If you have the space for it in your pack, you will be very happy you have it. If you don't have room, squeeze it in anyhow. You won't regret it.

I do most of my hiking in the winter months and finding down wood that hasn't been picked over that can be cut with a folding hand saw , can be next to impossible. But the larger pieces usually are still available. The Boreal 21 is the answer to that problem. It weighs in at 1 pound 2 oz and folds up as tight as any other hand saw. Perfect for carrying in the backpack. There are no screws to fool with. Just unfold it and snap the tension arm in the handle. The saw has a 21 inch blade and will cut a 10 inch diameter log in no time. But I can still use it on much smaller pieces of wood. It is the only saw I need for my backpack. I should have bought it sooner.

Hands down worth every penny! Used this for a 2-day canoeing/camping trip along with my axe and couldn’t have asked for a better combination, the saw itself is good standalone I would recommend getting their dry wood or Sydney blade if you plan on using it mainly for sawing hardwood for fire but the multipurpose blade that is included works fine even though it seems mainly designed for soft or wet wood. Since I have had such a good experience not only with the saw itself but the company’s service and meeting my last minute needs on shipping I will be going to them to get one of their cool looking sheaths (holds the saw and extra blades) and a few extra/different blades for different situations and easy carrying.

Is it the *perfect* saw? Lacking a specific category of 'must have', this may in fact be it. It cuts logs < 4in like nothing, and weighs basically nothing for the utility it brings to your bushcraft kit. I'd be hard-pressed to find a saw that packs easily, and is as efficient as this one. I am nothing but impressed after several hours of hard use. Will be buying more saw replacement blades when this one eventually wears out. Buy once, cry once- this saw is a keeper :)

This saw is a real champ at the camp. It folds down for hauling it out to your adventure site, then opens in a matter of seconds being one of the best bushcraft tools you have in your arsenal. My son and I put it to some hard use making a camp and shelter and she held up and begged for more.

I looked at a ton of different saws. Saws with straight blades, bow saws, Wyoming saws. I watched enough You Tube videos and reviews to learn just about everything there is to know about saws. Being a firm believer in the "Buy once, Cry once" philosophy I chose this saw. I am not sorry. It eats wood. It's easy to pack, fairly light, no parts to lose, uses standard 21" blades available anywhere and is ready to use in seconds. Yeah, $70 seems expensive but it will be utilized by my grandkids. I do wish that it came with a pouch, case, whatever but I guess I'll throw another $40 at 'em and get the one made for this saw.

Mine did not come with a Sheath. My bad not reading fine print.
When putting together and apart, IT SNAPS as so much tension.
On video youtube, others, looks like cutting hot butter. Unsnapped
first time with wife and lordy the screaming at me as blade whipped around.
Seems VERY SOLID and will be a great back packing tool to have for wood.
