This is one of his best. I will never get tired of listening to it. His pulsating rhythms take the listener through the green flooded Amazon. It's soothing but definately not "elevator new age."

Ironically, I first heard this album on YouTube, where someone had posted the entire album in one clip. I put it on while me and a friend were collaborating on a writing project, working back and forth over far too much caffeine on a sunny Saturday. We thought the music was really good background for this kind of creative work, on the one hand, but also mesmerizing when listened to by itself with no distractions. I bought the album on Amazon and put it in my car one day, and I drove for an hour in no particular direction just to listen to each track (I have a decent car audio system, which helps). What an evocative set of pieces -- highly recommended for anyone who likes emotive classical-style music, traditional instrumentation, or even for those who just want ambient music to keep on while working/writing.

Philip Glass' concept of writing music celebrating an entire continental water system is breathtaking. The accomplishment of Uakti's performance of this artistic masterpiece, with unprecedented interaction between composer and performers, is probably the real triumph. It really is amazing what this Brazilian group of musicians who are also instrument makers have accomplished here. The rhythms and melodic and harmonic approaches are quite thrilling to say the least. One can listen forever.

I had the extremely good luck to see a live performance by the Brazilian dance troupe "Grupo Corpo", who did a piece using this entire composition. It was one of the most spectacular modern dance performances that I've seen in years, and this music was incredibly effective.
