I decided to test these out before I took them hiking. Fortunately for me, I love to walk so these were put to the test as soon as they came it. They fit my feet perfectly, and had extra room to wear thick socks without any discomfort. They have a very solid sole, and a comfortable insole. They have a nice warm lining from the toe up, so my feet stayed nice and warm. I was shocked how warm my toes stayed. I walked in 25 degree weather for about an hour and a half without any trouble (and my toes ALWAYS get cold).
They lace up nice and tight, and the zipper on the side aids in getting the boots on and fitting them more snugly. The lining at the top makes them very warm and comfortable. I am extremely pleased that I got these for only $69.99!
Note to people who might buy these as snow boots: THEY ARE NOT SNOW BOOTS. If you want snow boots, look for ones that specifically mention winter or snow in the title. They are waterproof in the shoe and great for shallow puddles and an inch or two of snow, but the tongue is not attached and the zipper won't prevent water getting in. I've noticed reviews complaining about how they aren't great in snow. This is because they aren't meant for snow, just hiking.
Unfortunately, we ordered these looking for boots suitable for (Boston) winter. The zipper is not gusseted. The tongue is not attached all the way up. And the insulation isn't enough for someone who gets cold feet often. These seem like fine hiking boots for someone who wants tall, lightweight, well-made hiking boots for fall/spring or some milder climate... but they don't seem made for snow.
