The 1N34A is a stander point contact germanium diode
The diode is a high impedance diode which takes little power to allow current to flow in one direction only
They are used in crystal radio sets that have no outside power input
The 1N34A germanium diode is used for the detection of the rectifying efficiency or for the switching on of a AM/FM radio, TV, or stereo
Note: If the 1N34A germanium diode is rusty that you received, please don't worry. It is a normal situation due to has different material, it will not impact your project
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Customers are satisfied with the product's functionality. They find it effective for crystal radios and much more sensitive than solid germanium. However, opinions differ on its value for money.
Customers like the functionality of the electronic component. They say it works well, is effective for crystal radios, and the diode is more sensitive and effective than solid germanium.

6 customers mention "Value for money"3 positive3 negative
Customers have mixed opinions about the value for money. Some say it's great, while others mention that the values vary wildly between diodes and units.
"They seem to be the real deal and do what what they're supposed to do...." Read more
"...Barrier voltage is very high (should be 0.25 v) and varies considerably between units...." Read more
I can hardly believe I can order an item for a few bucks and have it shipped from China, but I did. It took a while, however these diodes are barely made anywhere these days. They looked legit to me on the oscilloscope. I plan on making a few radios with them. I also thought it would be good to sew into clothing for covert/disaster resilience. A lot better than a blackened razor blade anyway.
They seem to be the real deal and do what what they're supposed to do. I can't vouch for the consistency as I've only used one out of the pack but the one I used worked great. Happy with purchase.
They seem to be genuine but I can't confirm that. I can confirm that the forward voltage is all over the place on the 10 pieces I received with one of them measuring over 1.8v. At least there's some decently matched pairs in there and I only needed a couple so I should be able to use these.
3.0 out of 5 stars
Inconsistent quality

Very poor quality. Barrier voltage is very high (should be 0.25 v) and varies considerably between units. Visual with microscope showed one piece with point contact area located on the side of the chip. Supplier has serious inspection and quality problems.
These diodes were real Germanium diodes in long clear glass cylinder with cat whisker, but the VF is all over the place. Out of all 10 diodes the VF ranged from .286 to .690 but was able to cherry pick the best ones for use in RF circuit. So in the end if you need Germanium diodes similar to 1n34a (did not say on diode) on the cheap then get these as they are real, just not as good as the original 1n34a diodes.
