Hello and welcome to the Video Gadgets Journal, or I should say welcome back because if you’ve been watching my channel over the last couple of months you’ll know I’ve been on a summer holiday the last couple of months. But I always knew there would be one gadget that would bring me back into my geeky, nerdy mode, and I think I may have just found it…
It's definitely a departure from what I usually cover on my Youtube channel but since this is the Video Gadgets Journal and this absolutely qualifies as a gadget I found it hard to resist purchasing one of these.
To give it an official title the Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Air Hogs - Remote Control Ultimate Millennium Falcon Quad is not only every child's dream but every 30-something-male-adult-with-a-large-disposable-income's dream. Children have to wait until Christmas, I waited until my pay day which just so happened to be the Labour Day weekend it was released.

The box is your typical Star Wars affair with plenty of logos and a design that's very familiar to any collectors out there. The back of the box displays the contents with English and, in this case, a French description of the item because I live in Canada these days. Each of the sides, with the exception of the underneath which lists battery information and safety instructions, displays the same design which helps establish that this product is from the new Star Wars films as I have no idea who this evil looking chap is. Maybe it's a spoiler and he kills Han and Chewie and rides off into the tattooine sunset in the Falcon - you heard it here first folks.

Jokes aside, I can now fly the Kessel run in 12 Parsecs.

But really, this is a great product. It may not appear to be very durable at first inspection, but I have crashed this thing over 20 times on pavement with no damage. Both my dog and cat have swat it out of the air and caused several crashes indoors with no damage, either.

There is a bit of a learning curve if you are new to flying quad-copters. I'd say give yourself a good hour of flying before you have any hopes of precise control.

Speaking of flying, I was able to go for an hour before I decided to charge the battery. I'm not sure how long the battery lasts but can say for certain that it takes ~45 minutes to fully charge.

Buyers may make the mistake because of it's material it is cheaply made, but the material is a space age composite that is basically indestructible. I lost control of mine when it was about 50-60 high and it crashed hard to the ground, not a dent or scratch and still works perfectly. The lights and sounds effects are add a nice realistic touch, but the sounds cannot be heard once the vehicle is 30-40 feet away. Love the glowing hyperdrive engine. Thinking about modifying one to carry a small GoPro, basically a weight test. I have flown the vehicle well above 100 feet, no problems. Can be used indoors, please don't fly it into a glass cabinet, it may be a little light, but might break non-tempered glass.

I've been flying small hobby quadcopters (Blade Nano and 180qx, mini and micro drones) for the last couple of years and this thing is easily in the same league..better in many ways.

Pros: durable, easy to control, cool lights, it's the MILLENIUM FALCON!!! Cons: since you can't remove the battery, you'll need to charge it for each flight (which takes 45 minutes or so), useless in the slightest breeze, charging from the controller drains the AA batteries quickly.

Great quadcopter at any rate. Charge it with the USB cable, keep it indoors, use it to chase your kids and pets around the house.

That is the question I had after the first time I took one of the into the air. As soon as the novelty of flying the Millennium Falcon wears off, the reality of what a piece of junk this toy is will set in, especially given its price compared to other quads.

I bought two of these, one for myself, and one for my work wife. Both had problems out of the box. The first one, three of the blades wouldn't turn. The reason? Because they weren't mounted correctly and would run into the sides of the openings. Not something that should have gotten out of the factory without being discovered. With the second unit, the shoulder buttons on the controller were near impossible to activate. Inspecting more closely, the controller hadn't been assembled right. I corrected both issues myself instead of returning them, shaving the openings on the first unit to give clearance for the blades, and correctly assembling the controller on the second. Once done, it was flight time.

Flight time is about 7 minutes, which is on par with other quads. What isn't on par is the lack of trim controls, the horribly loud whine, and spotty controls. Both units have a tendency to rotate on the horizontal axis for no apparent reason. Without trim controls, you're pretty much stuck with it, pathetic as it is. Each also will sometimes not respond to the controls, or, make sudden and erratic movement for no apparent reason. Most of my flights have been indoors, with no fans or other source of drafts to cause this. Outdoors, this quad gets blown around very easily, and lacks the power to do any serious maneuvering in even the slightest of breezes.
