It's a Dana Bell book, so expect the sky, and the sky you get.

Gorgeous, sharp, some of them in incredible color, from the period, not of restored aircraft, beautiful photographs! Mediocre captioning would still warrant buying this book, but Bell's knowledge is just the icing on top.

This book pays for itself in the first 4 pages -with the serial numbers for the different variants/subcontractors of the Corsair. I've spent literally hours on just a couple of photographs. The author has done something I haven't seen anywhere else: superimpose internal components on a picture of the Corsair to give you an idea where their placing is. Great value for the modeler.

Each picture seems to have been carefully selected to inform the reader and not just dumped into an unorganized collection like many other pictorials.

Buy it, if you haven't already, before it goes out of print, at which time I predict it will become very expensive to get.

This truly is a great monograph of the Corsair.
The concise text touches on all the important aspects of this iconic WWII fighter.
The story of its development is covered, there is a summary of the changes the aircraft went through during production and the camouflage and colors are well covered as one would expect from Dana Bell.
The collection is named "Aircraft Pictorial" and the photos are indeed the highlight of the book.
Most have not been seen before and they are beautifully printed in large size allowing the reader (and modeler) to take all the details in.
Some of the picture are in color and a few illustrations complete the package.
The captions are very informative, there is something to learn from every photograph.
At around $21 shipped this book offers a terrific value, I highly recommend buying both volumes 7 & 8.
If you are a Corsair enthusiasts and/or a modeler you will love them.

I primarily buy these books for pictures and details I may want to use when building a model. So while the detail drawings are a great aid, I want to see photos of the actual wartime aircraft.

Bell delivers with this book - its companion volume on the 'birdcage' F4U is terrific, and this one is its equal.

There is an error in my copy - the sideview of the RN camo is missing the center green section, but it is easy to see that in photos. More interesting is knowing there were TWO clipped tips styles for RN Corsairs, for example.

I have spent a lot more on lesser works, but this should be your first stop if you need any info at all on the raised cockpit WWII Corsair. If nothing else, you will finally know whether there should be a step cutout in the flap on the F4U. 8-)

Every Corsair lover should own a copy.
