I may have picked a bad day to stop smoking and write reviews, but this movie is outstanding. Politically incorrect throughout and frequently hilarious. A great way to forget about the worldly BS for a while and just enjoy laughing at humanities frailties.

Still holds up as a funny comedy since I saw it as a kid

Airplane was a childhood favorite that I saw several times in a movie theater when it came out. I wanted to see whether it could still make me laugh. It did.

The premise of the movie is that it is a spoof of the disaster movies that were popular in the 1970s. During a flight several passengers and the entire crew get sick off of the fish dinner. They have to find someone to fly and land the plane.

The film definitely delivers with the comedy. During the opening credits there are two voices on the intercom making announcements at an airport about white zones are for passenger drop offs only and no stops are allowed in the red. Then they start arguing over the zones and then start throwing insults at each other. When the plane is about to take off JJ Walker makes a guest appearance and checks the oil under the planes hood like it’s a car. Afterward Kareem Abdul Jabbar walks into the cockpit as the co-pilot. A kid later recognizes him but he denies he’s a basketball player until the boy tells him how much his dad doesn’t like his play. Kareem grabs the boy and says he’s been criticized ever since he was at UCLA and the kid’s dad should try running up and down the court with Bill Walton. The style of the story was to lay down one joke after another in rapid succession especially witty word play like when a stewardess tells a doctor surely he could do something. The doctor replies, “Yes I can and stop calling me Shirley.” That doesn’t mean everything works, but there are so many it will get you laughing.

Funny then, funny now.

This was hilarious, even after all these years. Political Correctness has taken just good humor and made things agenda driven.

Funny for the hard-to-offend crowd.

If you have a forgiving sense of humor, this movie holds up so well. Some scenes have some obvious racist or sexist undertones that don’t hold up great, but they are largely overshadowed by the absolute hilarious chaos.
Don’t take this movie seriously and you’ll have a great time. One of Leslie Neilson’s best for sure. The “snap out of it” scene was hilarious to me. Don’t take the movie too seriously, Give yourself a laugh and watch it at least once.
