Author Don Berliner is a charter member of the Society of Air Racing Historians, and who better than Berliner to chronicle the history of air racing from the first race at Reims, France, to today's fast-paced races at Reno, Nevada. Within that 100 year timespan, Berliner details the Gordon Bennett races, the Schneider Cup, the Pulitzer Trophy races, the California to Hawaii Dole Race, the National Air Races at Cleveland -- both pre- and post-war, concluding with an extensive history of the National Championship Air Races at Reno, Nev. Sport, Formula One, biplane, jets, and unlimited racing classes are covered. Within the narrative, the author captures the tempo of each year and the racing action in the air and in the pits. Many photos accompany the text. This book deserves a spot on your air racing bookshelf.
