Couple things to note... If you plan to use decks you will need to purchase Serato DVS for $100 to interface with the cd's or tables. Serato is currently offering the Suite package for $300, get it, you will not be disappointed. Also be sure to buy BOTH AMX and AFX units. They do work well as stand alone units but in tandem they are glorious.
Also, there are no auxiliary ins and outs. 2 RCA deck ins, 1 RCA master out... that's it. I recommend chaining the mixer to a Master Mixer for improved Master volume out. I used my old Rane TTM 57 which allows me to add more channels as well.
Lastly the AMX and AFX are TINY and light weight. Currently there is no hard case available. Both units side by side measure 10.5" across so a 10" mixer case might work. You will also need to raise the AMX and AFX up to reach the height of your decks. The units only stand about 1" tall. I plan on custom building a weighted case for the pair.
A few things not mentioned in the specs and info I have read thus far-
The EQ's do cut frequencies out completely. Just like the beloved Rane with all EQ's turned completely down there is no sound.
The AMX does have a single on board FX nob for each channel. Also loading tracks is simple and easy with the library browse and load nob. I always went to the laptop rather than trying to figure out how to load tracks with the Rane TTM 57. I don't even have to touch the laptop now as everything is laid out nice and simple.
I have only just broken the ice with 2 days of use and my mixes and fun at the tables have improved by leaps and bounds. I can't wait to dive deeper into all the function and fun of these awesome new toys.
Akai has done a fantastic job with this mixer and FX controller. Being their first breech into the DJ mixer realm I cannot wait to see what they do next. My wish list, Make it bigger, 10" wide standard height and weight, combine the two units, and add more/ better ins and outs, XLR masters would be nice, 4 channels, mic input, aux ins/outs etc.
I've had this for years and finally gave it a review. Just upgraded to the NUMARK NTX1000s a step above the PT-01 scratch turntables. Huge difference. Audio circuitry and sound are superb. If you use Virtual dj like I do with a ddj SB2 or SB3 but wanted to use time control in the future without paying what RANE charge then this is perfect. I bridge my controller and set time code through this mixer. Gives me 2 crossfaders to cut standard and reverse. Plus you can use the effects on your controller. Pros= price!!!! About 450 for both; excellent serato control; touch feature; lightweight, sturdy and portable.
Cons= input for each channel is a revolving knob so there is no way to see your actual input level. Took some getting used but not a biggie. Depth of the units are way too shallow, I ordered some custom stands for mine and they sit beautifully but have yet to figure out a flight case. Can not work as a stand alone mixer. You have ro purchse the DVS upgrade.
Overall the AMX and AFX together is a steal. It has tons of feature to personalize your mix. Though I have not used a rane 62 or djm s9, but i do have a ddjsx2 and a djm 900 and I prefer the AMX and AFX because of its superior controlability of serato dj.
Inputs and output seem solid, no buzzing or reduction in quality here.

The downsides are gain controls on infinite knobs (as shift makes them adjust pitch) and also that output is slightly low as it is only bus powered. Both these can be mitigated.
I am not sure what to with this controller now.
No way to send a message to Akai and ask for a product replacement/refund. Really hoping this message will bring attention and they contact me.
