The Dul' Buhar are the deadliest of warriors, gifted with extraordinary skills through the dark magic of their Sorcerer King, and Akiri is the mightiest of them all. Yet even his immense talents will be tested beyond the point of breaking as everything he believes in is ripped apart by his sovereign's insatiable hunger for conquest and death.

Akiri was born into war, his childhood shaped by battle and betrayal. He knows it is his fate to die by the sword. He is a warrior. Warriors die. It is what they do. But he will not go without a fight. In his first breathtaking adventure Akiri must outwit shape-shifting creatures bent on devouring his soul, battle spirit demons, become the first new dragon lord in a generation, and defy the will of the God of Death himself if he wants to live.

Forged in the pits of hell by the Lord of the Underworld himself, the legendary Scepter of Xarbaal was created with the sole purpose of purging the land of mortal life. In his arrogance, the Sorcerer King believes he has the strength to wield against his enemies and end the devastating war once and for all. Akiri is the only man he trusts to recover the mythical artifact.

Akiri has never failed his sovereign yet, but he knows that to succeed this time could usher in the death of the world...

The Scepter of Xarbaal is a brand-new, pulse-pounding novel set in a world of mad kings, vengeful gods, and soul eating demons sure to delight fans of RE Howard's Conan the Barbarian and David Gemmell's Druss the Legend. Written by multiple award winning and international bestsellers Brian D. Anderson and Steven Savile The Scepter of Xarbaal is the first standalone adventure in Akiri's tortured world.

This was an excellent beginning to the series I look forward to the next few books from this pair. The story was fast paced and was well written with colorful characters and a few nice twists. Also leaving you a few good plot points left open and I hope to explore those in the next books.

Didnt really know what to expect. This was an adult fantasy for sure. Action packed. The pages flew by. The main character was a little one dimensional and his blind devotion to an unworthy king was annoying but he could fight and was good in the bedroom with the queen oh yeah. It flitted from one action packed scene to the next. i hope there is another one i will definitely read it. I recommend this book. If you like adult fantasy this book is for you.

I recommend this book to those who wish to read about an adventure story which has all the makings of a great epic series. It is well told and had great character development and enough mystery to keep.yiu wanting more from the back stories of the characters who dangle little bits here and there that are just enough to keep.yiu from being parched from the thirst for more. I look forward to pressing the next installment from this series.

This was quite a bit refreshing given it is about dragons and warriors of magical means. Anderson deftly submerges the reader into his story, with just enough tantalizing detail that does not bog down, and keeps one cleverly engrossed in the plot. A story with growth, finding oneself, lost but found and searching for purpose. Definitely worth reading, and now I am jonesing for more.

Entertaining and a good collaborative effort from the authors. Predictable in some places, but leaves the door open for sequels, which I am looking forward to.

Mediocre writing. Mediocre plot. Mediocre characters and dialogue. This book wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t anything special, either. It will do in a pinch.
