For the record, I love AKiTiO (weirdest spelling/capitalization for a company name ever), the enclosures are beautiful and built well. I have a four bay enclose that works flawlessly. However, I've tried two of these now with my new MacBook Pro i9 using the USB-C connection, and both of them had issues with freezing up the computer using a RAID 1 configuration.
I thought maybe the first one was a lemon so I returned it, but the second one did the exact same thing. I pulled both drives and ran them through thorough diagnostics (using SoftRaid) and both drives were fully functional, but for some reason in the enclosure it would hang, give me the spinning wheel, and the only option was to manually eject the drive by pulling the cable. After doing this a few times with the replacement drive I had severe data loss on one of the drives.
Fortunately the other drive was intact so I didn't lose anything, but needless to say I am disappointed that the RAID hardware controller seems to have issues on these drives- at least on a Mac.
