Review

It was a really interesting concept on that book and I enjoyed reading it. He did a good job on that one. Daughter of the Republic of Texas, Alamo Committee Member, Designated Reviewer --Daughters of the Republic of Texas

We can see that this book was a true labor of love..... Ann Serrano, Librarian, The Dolph Briscoe Center for American History, University of Texas --University of Texas

Your research and knowledge and gift for the telling of this story is truly a tribute to those brave men who perished at that place and time in history. ...I have been moved to tears by your fantastic talented telling of the battle and the heroes who fought so valiantly for their cause, Our cause, as Americans. Read this book first, then take it with you. Most visitors just see the Alamo compound, where it ended, but the 1836 siege and battle took place all over the city and this book will help you see and remember it all.

My biggest problem is that only one map contains the "letter keys" that matches locations on the map. The rest of the maps only marks a location with a letter. So I had to keep turning back to key map which is a real pain. It would have been much better if every map had such a location key. That wouldn't be to hard to do and it sure would help!
First of all buy from Amazon rather than other vendors! You'll save a bunch of $s. Although I'm very familiar with most of the locations mentioned I found a few that I knew had existed at one time like Bowie's home. Now I know where it is as well a few others. It takes the visitor on a helpful stroll around the area of the Alamo and points out places of importance that are no longer there. One word of warning don't take the tour during the late spring, summer, or early fall months it's too hot and humid to enjoy yourself. If you do go in the mentioned months you might want to spread out the tour over a few days, And please take plenty of H2O with you you'll be glad you did.

We were able to use this book to navigate the missions and many historical sites in San Antonio. I wish we had this book in previous visits for a real enjoyable tour. Lots of pictures and maps, Descriptions of sights we didn't know existed. Highly recommended. Ed

My husband LOVES this book. He saw a television program which talked about it and he was hooked. I bought the book for him and he treasures it like it was fine wine. He says that the book is articulate and historically accurate. If I can ever get MY hands on it, I will definitely give it a read. I doubt that I will get a chance to read it, however. Husband won't let go of it....

Being born and raised in Texas, I love the deep history our state has. I have been to the Alamo once and want to revisit it again - especially after reading this book. It is a field guide and helps one understand the events leading up to the fall of the Alamo and the documented areas around the vicinity that has great importance to the battle. I first learned about this book on an episode of Texas Country Reporter. I highly recommend getting this book and bring it with you when going to the Alamo for a more complete tour.

This would be so much better if it came with an app for a mobile device. I purchased the book in Kindle format, but all the while using it as a guide, I can think of many more ways a GPS-enabled app would have been so much better , especially if it contained narration and additional information exclusive to the app.

To take it a step further, if the app were able to use 3D/GPS technology, you could hold up the device and see how the grounds looked at the time of the battle. What an experience that would be!

I am a native Texan and have visited the Alamo many times, having the privilege of living only 80 miles west of San Antonio.

This book does a good job meeting the basic needs addressed in the title of the book. Unfortunately, the book itself appears to be an amateur construction, with many illustrations being copies from Google maps, grammar errors, and blurred illustrations rather than crisp images from professional works. Even with these issues, the author does a fine job of including the necessary steps to enjoy a tour that goes beyond the usual stop at the Alamo itself.
