So add the Alamo From A To Z to your collection today. I know you will refer back to it time and again for inspiration, or just to get your Alamo fix. And for people who have never heard of the Alamo story, this book may just make you an enthusiast.
I used this book as a review at the end of the year - you could also use the book as an introduction as well, but I didn't have it then. My students loved it! The author keeps descriptions short and sweet, but still quite informative and detailed - it wasn't at all like their long-winded history book. The illustrations helped them visualize what was happening in the Texas Revolution, which is critical to their understanding of it.
This book is very easy for students to understand and it sparked their interest greatly, as they were full of higher-level thinking questions by the end of the book! I had kids who never participated before in other subjects that I taught making connections and asking amazing questions! I used the 3-2-1 Strategy with the book (3 things you learned, 2 interesting things, 1 question) and took it for a grade - all can be done in about an hour.
Every elementary school library in Texas should have this book!
