Upon my arrival in AK this was one of the first gardening books I read about Alaskan climate and gardening. This book introduced me to raised beds and other useful techniques for gardening in a cold climate. I'm happy to say my first garden turned out great, thanks to this book.

My Parents have been in Alaska since 1974 and I have lived there more then 30 years. My mom has an old worn out versian of this book and I have this new versian. It is really a great handbook. Every Alaska gardener should have a copy!

My copy of this book is well worn with use. I consider this book a must for the Alaskan gardener. The format is alphabetical and covers most flowers, vegetables, trees, shrubs, etc... that do well in Alaska. Lenore Hedla seems well aware that gardening in the North has a lot of room for growth and experimentation. If you live in Alaska and wish to garden here you will love this book!
