Editorial Reviews
From the Publisher
Russell Annabel was one of America's most outstanding and gifted outdoor writers; in fact, Ernest Hemingway said Annabel was "the finest outdoor writer" that he had ever read-an endorsement most writers can only dream about! Annabel started writing of his adventures in the Northland in the 1930s and continued writing until the late 1970s. Follow Annabel and his mentor, Tex Cobb, around in Alaska as they face enraged grizzlies, trophy Dall sheep, marauding wolverines, and mad moose. No other writer has ever been able to capture the spirit of adventure and hunting in Alaska like Russell Annabel. This book was an instantaneous sellout, in print less than eight months. Not surprisingly, it is now hard to find and much sought-after.
From the Back Cover
Russell Annabel began his writing career with his adventures in the Northland in the 1930s; his superb stories of Alaska and Mexico continued until the late 1970s. Now for the first time in book form, Safari Press is presenting his complete collection of previously unpublished magazine articles! Follow him along in Alaska with his mentor, Tex Cobb, as Annabel faces enraged grizzlies, trophy Dall sheep, marauding wolverines, and a mad moose. No other writer has ever been able to capture the spirit of adventure and hunting in Alaska like Russell Annabel. This is the first volume in a five-volume series containing all of Russell Annabel's best works.

Typical Annabel "faction" stories, interesting stories from a vivid imagination each with a shread of fact. Interesting that Russ could whip out a finished story in a short time with little or no editorializing necessary.

Since I'm an avowed Annabel fan this was a really good read. Obviously Rusty takes a little poetic license which I sure didn't recognize 60 years ago. I have visited some spots and ridden the same RR he did. I would never have cared a wit about AK without his writing.

Hemmingway considered Annabel one of the greatest outdoor writers of all time. It is no wonder as you read his best works in this book. Annabel has a way of drawing you into his hunts and adventures..he paints a picture that you can see so clearly that when he describes the biting cold you actually feel like buttoning up your shirt. You can see that cold Alaskan moon and stay with him as he chases his horses and his game..all with the legend of Alaskan outdoors himself, his good friend and mentor, Tex Cobb. If you love hunting for the spirit the fun and the adventure, do yourself a favor and buy this book. You will not regret it.
