I was immediately wrapped up in this story. The beginning is especially intriguing. I like that! Our heroine is a selfless individual and has to learn through some tough experiences to chart her own desires for her life.
The relationship between the love interests is nicely developed and not torturously frustrating as in some romance novels...ugh. We have two intelligent individuals who really care about one another and try to make the relationship work.
Also while it is clear these two desire and crave one another we are spared torrid, graphic love scenes. Thank you! Edie's approach is just right. We can read between the lines and know what is happening off page although a lot happens on page too!
I liked how the conflicts and problems were developed and resolved and also I enjoyed all the characters in the book (not too many to keep track of, thanks).
It is obvious Edie did lots of research on this because it shows and comes across beautifully. From whales and sea captains to beaches and oceans, she has an exceptional talent to paint scenes. Being a native Californian I enjoyed her take on Southern California.
A gorgeous book and a total joy to read!
I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys learning about new places (Alaska in this case), and enjoys a love story that is tender, and very believable.
Okay, here's the thing. Take a look at this authors page. Go ahead, I'll wait. . . .
Did you see all of those books? Well, I've read every one of them, except for the sequel to this book, which I just bought. So.. really, 24 hours and I'm caught up. I really enjoy all of the various books by this author. There is everything from YA to Mystery, Romance...all good fun. All good reads.
I started reading The books by Edie Claire ages ago, when I found a couple of her stand alone ( paranormal romance) books at a Half Price Books stores. That was it for me. I went looking for everything else she had written. There was a bit of a dry spell, then suddenly, I was able to get all of her books on my kindle. Nice, because they are good fun, and very re-readable.
She also meets Ben Parker, a naturalist and advocate for the environment. He works as a captain on a tour ship and they become friends. They are a number of issues to work out to find a way to blend their life together, plus Haley has to wait until her niece is born to be free to start a relationship with Ben.
The way the author wrote what each of the two main characters was thinking and feeling gave a deep look into how both Haley and Ben were feeling and the depth of the character. The plot was fun and solving multiple problems for this couple from long distance gave an added dimension with the use of humor to help move the story along quickly. The description of Alaska, California and Hawaii was excellent too.
