My go-to tripod I own is a Bogen tripod, so I'm use to twisting knob leg locks. This tripod has flip locks which I was concerned could not hold the legs in position tightly. I was pleasantly surprised that the locks keep the tripod in position securely. There are rubber feet on each leg, including the monopod. the quick release plate fits easily on each of my cameras. You tighten with the plastic knob beneath the plate. Adjusting the vertical pan is controlled with the long handle. The horizontal pan is controlled by loosening the large knob above the center column. The quick release mount can move, so your camera can have a vertical shoot. There is a rotating knob to tighten in horizontal or vertical position. The center column has a rotating knob to lock the leg brace in place.
The reason I give this 4 out of 5 stars is the quick release flip lock. Normally, tripods with a quick release have a safety. My spotting scope's tripod has a safety pin that inserts into the flip lock. Therefore, if you are holding the camera/scope and accidentally push the flip lock the camera does not fall completely off the mount. This camera does not and that worries me. In my video, I use a very old small camera of mine to demonstrate. Personally, I believe this tripod absolutely needs this safety feature, because it is light-weight and depending on the camera can be top heavy. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
The tripod is sturdy and has many locking mechanisms to be sure it stays put and the camera is secure. There are a few plastic parts where the camera is placed which both guys say would better off being metal but so far, they have not caused any issues. The tripod unfolds and extends easily and the swivel head allows the camera to point to any angle. The monopod is simple but does what its supposed to do. My son likes it.
This tripod isn't the best out there but, for travel or for quick shots, it's really very good. My son took it with him last week to a nature shoot to try it out and he felt it was sturdy and easy to work with. It's surprisingly light too which makes it easy to haul through the woods or up a mountain as the guys so often do. There is a quick release feature for the camera which both of the guys said they appreciate as well as the handle which swivels the angle. I don't know much about these things but my husband and son both are well acquainted with tripods and are happy with this one for occasional use and for travel. They wouldn't give up their professional tripods but, for the price, this one is a great addition and will be used quite a bit this summer. I gave it five stars based on the feedback I got and the price. It is definitely better quality than many others I looked at and many that my husband and son had looked at in the stores. Should there be any issues down the line, I will update and rerate.
