Amazing set with wet and dry options

I am obsessed with my adult coloring book hobby. I wanted a wide range of colors and this set fits my needs. Plus, I have the option of changing the laid down dry color to watercolor which really changes the picture in amazing ways. The pencils have a creamy feel as I lay down the color and the wet option helps to save color by using less to spread around the area while wet. I watched several ColoringKaria and Owings Art videos on YouTube to learn more about how to use these pencils to get the best effects. The tin is a little heavy to travel with, so I invested in a carrying case that holds the 120 pencils. Unlike some people, IMHO there is no such thing as too many color choices. The more, the merrier. However, these blend well when wet so there is the option of combining colors for a new effect.

Update 06/18/16: I tried these on a picture in Johanna Basford's Enchanted Forest. I put tiny drops of glycerin on my fingertips and dipped the tip of my pencil before coloring. This really brought out the colors and the glycerin did not take long to dry.

Oh Dear Lord, these pencils are unbelievable!!! I started drawing/painting last year and rely heavily on water soluble pencils. I started with Artist' Loft watercolor pencils, but found them hard to work with (don't waste your time and money). I then bought Derwent Inktense and Graphtense, which I love and will always use. I wanted to add more colors and bought these Faber-Castell pencils after a bit of research. The first thing I did was to make my own color chart. What I found was 1) the color literally flows off the pencil on to the paper with hardly any pressure, 2) the shift from one shade to the next is so subtle and the range so complete that I can't imagine needing any other colors, 3) when wetted, the colors are deep and fast, 4) these are so easy to blend that the range of possibilities is infinite. I mostly draw the colors on dry and brush out wet. The colors sink in to the paper where I drew it without running elsewhere. These pencils are fairly priced and worth every penny. These Faber-Castell's will forever be my primary tools. If you love watercolor and the control pencils give you, you cannot go wrong with these.

These pencils were everything I had hoped they would be .Before purchasing I reviewed and researched as much as I could comparing these to other top brands.I am sold on the quality of faber castell and have enjoyed all of their products in the past but never used their water colored pencils .Been currently using Prismacolor but wanted to try something new.
Once I had made my decision to buy these I waited a couple of weeks watching the price, hoping to catch a good deal since they are expensive . I finally took the plunge and decided to get the 120 set and I am so glad that I did !The colors are fantastic and there are a few colors in the set that I have not seen elsewhere .This set also has flesh tones,many reds and many greys which some sets don't offer. They layer and blend easily , apply smoothly and look great when using dry .When using wet ,they look like watercolors if applied lightly but if you use more pencil they look just like paint and are very vibrant in color.I have had no problems with them breaking , leads falling out , etc. The one thing I might mention which is no biggie is that they did not fit in my standard pencil sharpener but I had a faber castell pencil sharpener from a pencil set and they worked fine in it . If you have been trying to decide on which pencils to buy I don't think you will be displeased with these . The company is also eco friendly if that is important to you .

The 120 set is worth it!

Here's why you should buy the 120 set if you can stretch to it.
Mixing colours with pans or smaller sets of pencils is painstaking and a bit hit and miss. Trying to recreate the exact same colour later is even harder. The 120 set has given me a breadth of ready-mixed colours that are always consistent. They have a great range for flower, landscape and portrait painting, and include gold, silver and copper metallic pencils too (though the 3 metallic ones aren't great). I'm particularly pleased with the broad range of flesh tones, as these are often sparse in other watercolour pencil sets. See the attached pic for the colour range.

So, though buying the 120 set seemed like wanton indulgence at first, I feel the investment was worth it. The set is as good as it looks in the pictures. Though the inner trays are plastic with elastic lift-out tabs, they seem sturdy, and have a padded underside to prevent damage to the layer below. On the underside of the tin, there's a photo of each colour as it appears on paper, and these are also in the mini booklet that comes with the set (so don't toss it).

The pencils are as good to work with as the other positive reviews promise, dissolving fully, blending well and maintaining great intensity of colour. I've bought cheaper ones, but these are far better for workability and colour-range. Though you can draw first and add water later, I also use them like a hand-held 'pan', dabbing a wet brush on the point for pure colour or for mixing.

I really can't fault this set and would recommend them to anyone as a self-treat, a useful toolset, or an impressive gift.

I had previously bought two other different brands of watercolour pencil and to be honest, I wasn't that happy with them because they don't dissolve completely and so I had a bad view of watercolour pencils. After buying 3 other sets, one of which was the Derwent, I decided to jump into these Albrecht Durer pencils as a treat for myself. I'm so glad I did. I love all the different colours. I also love how controlled my painting is using them. And best of all, they dissolve completely, leaving no bits of colour behind, they look like regular watercolours. In fact, I've done some paintings using both conventional watercolours and these Albrecht Durer pencils and no one can tell the difference, even some of my artists friends can't tell. I don't regret buying them at all, unlike some other purchases I've made. If you enjoy watercolours, but want the control of a pencil, give these a try, true quality.

Great deal arrived promptly. I use Albrecht on pastel mat as a dry pencil for illustrations of dogs, I have used them wet as well of course and they perform well wet or dry. With all coloured pencils having a wide range of colours is desirable for realism. I have other pencil but find the feel and versatility of these ad suits me, many fell too hard especially on pastel mat paper. My first 'human' portrait I normally do dog portraits is my new grandson, need to practice skin tones but not bad for first attempt. I well recommend this product deal doubt it can be bettered.

Beautifully presented in a sturdy tin box which has a snug fitting lid. The inner three trays are easy to lift by the elasticated handles. Great quality pencils that I'll enjoy spending time trying many different techniques. The water activated colour saturation is stunning. So, quality pigments as expected. And, blending different colour hues, or putting down many light layers is effortless and a joy.
Okay, the reason for 3 stars? Well, SPOT THE DIFFERENCE in my photos! It leaped out at me almost as soon as I'd opened the cover.
Yes. There is a rogue Middle Cadmium Red Polychromos pencil in there. Guess this little guy decided he wanted to be different and decided to hang out with the Albrecht Durer gang.
If it was a small set, I would probably shrug, smile and carry on. But, I've paid a lot of money for the full set. Even though it made me smile, I'm disappointed I only have a 119 colour set! So, 3 stars it is.
Undecided whether to return, in case there is a batch with similar problems. Here's hoping Amazon will just get a replacement pencil sent to me instead.

EDIT: Amazon have given me a gift card to replace my missing pencil. Happy customer now, so 5 stars.

Ich habe die Albrecht Dürer und die Polychromos gekauft, weil ich mich nicht zwischen den beiden entscheiden konnte.

Beides sind sehr gute Stifte und ihren Preis wert.
+ Sehr schöne und kräftige Farben.
+ Sehr ergiebig. Ich male oft großflächig und ich muss sie dabei nur selten spitzen.
+ Albrecht Dürer und Polychromos lassen sich gut kombinieren.
+ Die Albrecht Dürer entwickeln beim Vermischen mit Wasser sehr leuchtende und strahlende Farben.
+ Die Polychromos sind laut Herstellerseite ölbasiert und haben nur einen geringen Wachsgehalt, was für mich bei der Wahl von Stiften sehr wichtig ist. Es gibt nichts Schlimmeres als „wax bloom“.

Ich persönlich bevorzuge zum Zeichnen die Polychromos, außer ich will den Aquarelleffekt der Albrecht Dürer verwenden. Die Polychromos fühlen sich meiner Meinung nach „öliger/glatter“ an. Die Albrecht Dürer sind „kreidiger/kalkiger“.
