To address some of the concerns: I have no issues operating it with one hand and there is a clever trick that makes the screen move halfway down when you need it, very handy); yes, there are occasional minor glitches in software, if you need Tinder or Snappie chattie it's not there, third-party apps rarely have the same clean look and fluid feel (that is, if there is an app), Cortana occasionally takes a few extra seconds to think on what you said, I don't use fingerprint sensor (company policy requires a pin), and VR is a joke unless you're interested in exploring the gorgeous OLED display's sub-pixel grid, but for a business-focused user bound to Microsoft infrastructure (e.g. Outlook contacts and calendar) this is a great, beautiful and well-crafted device. I've had a few people on the streets asking me if this is a new iPhone X before it was available in Australia, to give you an idea of how good the design is. It's a great phone. If you're remotely interested in mobile Windows experience, buy it. In fact, buy two and keep one unopened -- because it is quite probably the last Windows Phone ever.
The device is enjoyable to use, primarily because of the W10M OS (which I really like) and the performance of the hardware. I came from an older Lumia 735, and the performance of that phone was lacking by many measures. The IDOL 4S performs exceptionally well compared to that - it is a night and day difference. I wasn't sure if I'd like the larger sized device compared to the 735, but I've quickly grown to appreciate it. The fingerprint reader is also a nice convenience.
There are a couple things I don't care for:
- The location of the physical camera button is inconvenient. That is where the Lumia 735's power button was located, so I'm routinely triggering that inadvertently.
- Wi-Fi calling is not an option on this unlocked version. (I've read that it is available on the T-Mobile branded version.) Not a deal breaker for me, but it would have been nice.
Two other things to note:
- I've tried Continuum a few times using the wireless display adapter app and it is impressive. I'm not in the position to use it in day to day work, however, at least not right now. But it seems to work well.
- I did *not* buy this phone because of the VR capabilities that came with it. I've tried it out of curiosity, and there is a neat factor to it, but after a few minutes I moved on. Again, I think the phone is worth the price (with or without VR).
