We visited Alcatraz a year ago last spring, and the tour peaked my curiosity about the history of the island. This book, in a short, but sweet way, covered the entire history. I found that very interesting. The author, in vivid detail, described the background of the island, and its residents in such detail, that you could see it in your mind. The landscape was described in such a way, since I had seen it, I knew exactly what area he was speaking of. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the history of Alcatraz, and who does not have a great deal of time to spend reading it. There are many other books on this same subject, but this one is short and to the point! Loved It!!!

I love how he was able to provide everything there is to know about the island in just a few pages-- I'm a history nut but I'm not really into reading long dragging narratives. I just want the hard facts and some interesting details/trivia, the way this book has been written. I learned a great deal about Alcatraz and now I'm in search of the movies Black has mentioned in this book. Great job! -TR

This is a quick book summarizing the history of the famous and infamous of Alcatraz. Having already watched a documentary about this prison, I thought I knew its history.

However, Mr. Black explained the attempts to escape and what happened to the miscreants; that part made for interesting reading. Otherwise, the eBook was rather tame.
