from pure evil. I could not put the book down. It has so many twists and turns that keep you turning one page after another. I hope that more books will be added to the series. I would love to read more about the other character.
Do yourself a favor and don't let these books pass you by!
Facts were arranged in such a way that they made sense, and that helped the characters become more real for the reader. The action was paced so that it kept building, and the the finale was a logical conclusion to everything that led up to it.
I started this story irritated at how the first book in the series had ended, but I quickly forgot that as the action enveloped me. I don't remember turning pages I was so swept up in the tale.
That said, go the hell out and buy both of these books now because they are freaking FANTASTIC. I am not exaggerating when I say this is some of the best romantic suspense I have ever read, paranormal or otherwise; I literally couldn't put down The Alchemist's Son until I got to the final, thrilling climax.
Athena Daniels is an incredible writer and I absolutely love her work. The characters are believable, the sex scenes are HAWT, the writing is tight, the plot is coherent, suspenseful and unique... I don't know what more you could possibly want from a book.
I'd love to give it ten stars, but five will have to do.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book for review through ReadingAlley.
Sage has had the shock of her life when she discovered she was fated to be the one to put a stop to a demonizing... well... demon. And not just any, but a powerful monster who is poised to unleash darkness and chaos on the world. Not a job that I would want, either.
Her new beau, Ethan, is in a similar boat. He may have finally come to terms with the fact that something supernatural is happening, but that doesn't mean he knows how to stop it. If anything, their lives continue to spiral out of control as the dark force gets stronger. Sage and Ethan's bond is tested on multiple occasions.
The demon has a lot more help this time around and the results are devastating. Secrets threaten to rip our couple apart just as quick as the beast who is haunting them. More is at stake and surprising revelations give only little hope for the banishment of the monster.
I loved that this series was set in Australia. I can honestly say that I don't think I've read a single book with a setting in that particular country. I'm not even sure I realized it until this book, either. The way the story was told, this could have been any small town in America or the UK, too. It was very relatable.
My chief complaint about the first book of this series was the wordiness. Single scenes or action sequences would take pages upon pages to find resolution. This time around, it was much of the same thing. There is a lot of inner dialogue, again, but I found that the action was better balanced in the second book.
If you've read the first book, you probably won't be terribly surprised to learn of the alchemist son's identity. Clues were dropped here and there so it wasn't hard to figure it out. There are, however, a few twists in this book that made my eyes widen in surprise. And to be honest, I really didn't know how to expect this story to end. I was quickly flipping the pages to find out. The suspense was powerful.
A solid conclusion with lots of steamy romance and several gasp-worthy moments. Four suns!
