If you haven't read the Nightblade series yet, I suggest that you do so. Although The Alchemist's Touch will still be good even if you don't. But I love how the two stories are cross-referencing and I think most people would agree.
Garrett Robinson does a fantastic job of getting you completely inside the minds of the characters, in both series, and this is one of my favorite things about reading. It's great to read a good storyline, but to be completely immersed in the heart and soul of the characters while reading a great storyline is absolutely fabulous!
Just a heads-up, because I didn't catch on right away, the epilogue to these books comes after the acknowledgements and about the author portion of the book, so keep turning those pages or you may regret it!
And just so you know, the second book in this series, The Mindmage's Wrath, is even better than this one. I didn't think that could be possible, but I became completely addicted and could hardly leave my house until I finished it. There are even more plot twists, action, and revealed secrets than the previous stories. Now I'm just sitting here anxiously awaiting for the next one to be released next month and can't wait to find out how the characters from this series get tangled up with the characters from the Nightblade series.
Ebon is an interesting character who I found refreshing in the fantasy genre. It's quite clear, by this point, that Mr. Robinson is quite a master of the tropes of the genre. If you like fantasy, this is a book, and a series, you would be foolish to miss out on.
If you're a fan of Harry Potter over the age of 16 (because, real talk, The Alchemist's Touch isn't graphic but it does contain reference to sexual experience and some violence) you'll like The Alchemist's Touch.
As Ebon finally becomes free of his families overpowering presence it becomes a great read song this character develop into a, we'll not quite strong lead, but moving toward the greatness with a new self-confidence that he discovers through the help of new friends he finds in the academy.
this book becomes a great addition to the underrealm's world. I can't wait to see how this characters story develops and eventually merges into the greater story that begins in the nightblade saga
