In the second place, the book presents an intelligent, non-New Age, overview of alchemy, as suggested by the chapter headings: 1)Origins, 2)Graeco-Egyptian Alchemy, 3) From Antiquity to the Middle Ages, 4) Within the Monestary Walls, 5) Books and Language, 6) The Great Work, 7) Some Famous Alchemists, 8) The Century of the Rosicrucians, 9) Decline and Resurgence, 19) The Alchemists in European Society. It discusses a number of alchemists throughout, including Arab alchemists, as well as some Chinese alchemists, and there is a page devoted to Indian alchemy, but the book generally focuses on European alchemy. It's a great introduction to a vast and complex subject.
