I recently got the Belle Mary Janes in the "Happy Snake" print and I was somewhat disappointed. The shoes always fit me true to size; take a few (painful) days to break in, but end up being my bestfriend at work. Unfortunately, the "snake pattern" doesn't hold up to wear and tear. The "scales" are already flaking off and I've only been wearing them for a week. On the other hand, I did get them on sale for half off so I'm not TOO upset about it.
Watch out for any "foil" ones and "snake skin" ones- they will flake and peel.
My old shoes and purchased 2 more pairs!
I found a great deal here on Amazon and decided to give them a try. I am SO glad that I bought these shoes. I purchased the Alegria Women's Belle Grid Silver. They were comfortable right out of the box. I read the reviews about ordering up a size. I normally wear a 9 in shoes but I ordered the 40 in this shoe. I also wear a 40 in the Danskos. I have plenty of toe room since the toe box is boxy. The arch hit in the right place and the top of the shoe in the heel area is padded.
They arrived on a Friday and I wore them all day Saturday and the following Monday to the Georgia Aquarium. My feet and back never hurt.
I have two pairs of Dansko XP and the Alegria shoe was much better. I love this shoe so much that I ordered a solid black pair that I found on sale here on Amazon. I hope that the 2nd pair will be as great as this pair.
Unfortunately on the first day, before the first mile was up, they had rubbed open long gashes on the outside back of my right foot (like, horizontally along the edge of the shoe, just under the ankle bone and all the way around the back of the heel). I had to go to the National Gallery of Art museum store and pay $8 for a pack of funky artistic band-aids! These helped me get back to my hotel in only minor amounts of pain, but I am very disgusted with the Belle for being so rough on my feet, so early in the process. Still have 10 days more of vacation, but haven't worn them since, and am actually considering trashing them and losing the money. Not sure about that yet. I would not recommend this style if you need them to be walkable right out of the box. Perhaps if I take them home and wear them with socks for a few weeks, it will help soften that piece of the shoe and make it work for me. If not, another ebay sale will be forthcoming!
I sized up a half size and they fit ok. I would say that if you are in a profession where you stand all day, and you're trying to decide between these and the Palomas, go with the Palomas. I stand/walk 5-8 hours a day on a concrete floor and even though the Belles are pretty comfy for a while, after hour 4 or 5 they don't really do much good. Painless break-in period, though I recommend wearing socks that go above the top of the shoe if you are wearing them all day, because the edge of the shoe just below the ankle can rub after many hours of walking around. I LOVE the "Ric Rack Rainbow" design, it's really festive! All in all, a pretty great shoe for normal wear - go with the Paloma style for work wear.
