Editorial Reviews

"I loved the first three Zaria books, and I have to say I'm even more in love with Aleks!" - Rusty Forsmark, Amazon Review

"You don't realise how much you miss things till they are gone, and this is the case with this series. The characters had a way of worming themselves into my heart and I missed them! Well, they are back and better than ever!!"
- Natalie, Book Lover's Life

"I loved seeing how the group of friends has matured - crushes are a big part of the story now!" -
Rosemary, Mom Read It

"There's just something so comforting about returning to Zaria and the gang, while also learning more about Aleks story."
- Brenda, Brenda's Log Cabin Library

From the Author

Hi Fiercelings!

I'm sure you're all thinking, "Keira, why did you decide to switch the main character from Zaria to Aleks? Isn't this the Zaria Fierce Series?"

It is and I did! The whole gang is back though, so all your favorites are on the adventure.

As to why I did it, Aleks' character arc was something I wanted to explore. I knew there was a story to tell in Niffleheim, which is another reason why Aleks had to take the lead for the next three books and the next dragon.

I prefer breaking up the series in this way to alternating head space with different characters every chapter or every few chapters. It allowed me to really delve into Zaria's head space, and now into Aleks' mindset.

As the whole gang gets older, and interacts with the world around them, it's important for them to continue to grow and develop into new versions of themselves. Characters who are memorable are not in stasis. As an author, I always ask myself, what's next, what motivates them, what are they afraid of? Then I tackle the answers and bring them to the story.

Zaria starts out the series as a shy bookworm, and she may still be a bookworm, and a tad shy about boys and feelings, but when it comes to other things she is fierce, and brave, and strong. She's a stronger character than she began in the books. Her journey was very much about finding her true self.

Aleks is the opposite of her at the start, even from the first book. He's knows he's a Changeling. He knows he's magical. He knows he's adopted. He's certain who his true self is and what he wants and doesn't want. He doesn't want his powers. He wants to be normal. He wants to be human. This desire sometimes puts him at odds with his human friends, like Christoffer, who would love nothing more than to be magical.

I grew up on
The Little Mermaid, and I always thought it was cool that Ariel wanted to be human, that to her this was a dream worth chasing. Most character plots involve ordinary people wanting to be extraordinary such as wanting to become a superhero, or a wizard, or a vampire, etc. Wanting to stay human, or wanting to become human is not the norm. Or if a character wants it, then they don't have the means to become it. In Aleks' case, he does have the means.

To make matters better, or worse, Aleks has a deadline for turning human hanging over his head. If he isn't home for his sixteenth birthday, he will have missed his one and only chance to lose all the things they make him fey and gain all the things he thinks he wants. So to him there's nothing worse than a dragon with bad timing making a move.

As I stated earlier, Aleks knows he's adopted. His view on adoption differs slightly from Zaria's view. Where Zaria knew nothing about her birth family, Aleks grew up hearing horrible things about them and fairies in general through his grandmother (who is like him, a Changeling, and from the same fairy family). He wants nothing to do with his biological relatives, and yet he is forced to interact with them in a very dangerous setting, where if he isn't careful he could lose his head, and if he doesn't go with his friends on this adventure a dragon might very well escape from prison and take over the world. He almost can't win.

Where his path takes him, and what he learns along the way - well, you'll have to read Aleks' trilogy to find out.

Hi! I’m Keira Gillett and I am from Palm Bay, Florida. By day I am working behind the scenes in IT; by night I’m a children’s author. I love playing hobby board games and watching Korean TV Dramas. My dog Oskar is named after a giant ruler in the Zaria Fierce Series I wrote. He's the cutest little Shiba Inu who loves to be where I am. We have lots of fun adventures together, which you can follow on Instagram with the hashtag #oskarpie.

I adore hearing from my fans. You can reach me at

The Zaria Fierce Series debuted March 2015 with "Zaria Fierce and the Secret of Gloomwood Forest." The stories follow a biracial girl's quest to save her friend from a nasty river-troll. Following Zaria's trilogy, her changeling friend Aleks takes over the narrative starting in "Aleks Mickelsen and the Twice-Lost Fairy Well." The final trilogy, starring Christoffer Johansen, arrived on the scenes in May 2020 with "Christoffer Johansen and the Return to Jötunheim."
