If the last 5/6 chapters were removed, from the marriage proposal on. Such unnecessary tragedy I'm so numb by the ending, I basically skimmed to finish coz I couldn't stand reading anymore depressing stuff.
Alex Stewart is an ex-sniper, a man driven by his military contract work, and a man trying to live with emotional pain. All he wants is a couple of weeks with his dogs at his small mountain cabin. What he finds on his cabin porch is Kelsey Durrant. She's half dead and badly beaten, and she can't remember who she is, but knows she's running from an unseen danger. Together, they will forge a bond as they make a very long and painful journey through their anguish and grief toward healing and self-forgiveness.
This excellently written novel is more than just a romance, it is a heart wrenching and emotional love story of loss, fear, danger, hope and new beginnings. Ms. Winters should be proud of this work because it is one of the best I have read. It is also a testament to the fact that indeed a book of this genre can indeed be free of explicit sex and vulgar language.
Warning: If you have ever suffered violent physical or mental abuse, PTSD, or if you have lost a child, this book may be very difficult, if not impossible to read. However, it could also be therapeutic and helpful. Just have a large box of tissues handy.
The book was well written. It had a believable story line. It did have a few PTSD invoking sections I had to skip due to my own trauma's. But the review made it very clear that was a possibility. The review also made reference to the fact that it could be triggering or it could be therapeutic. It was a great help to me emotionally to be able to read about someone wiht issues similar to mine. It helped me not to feel so alone. It was a really good book. Having the dogs in the story really helped the story along and provided some emotional safety. I wish the dogs had been mentioned more in the 2nd half of the book. But it is a book I highly recommend. If you are not into all the details of sex then this is the book for you. It had jsut enough sex and warmth for you to understand what was happening wiht out a detailed description.
