I would've enjoyed reading this book a lot more if the author had done some research. For example, the FUN doesn't have a uniformed division. They wear plain clothes. They also fly armed, just like All federal law enforcement officers do. It did have a good bit of action and suspense.

The story, set in 1985, begins with Alex Hollick, a young FBI agent in a robbery division, caught up in a stake out with three other agents. It all goes very wrong. Alex is then sent to Quantico where attempts are made to break him physically and psychologically. One is never sure what the aim behind this horrific experience is. 50% into the novel the storyline gathers momentum, encouraging the reader to continue. I found the on /off nature of the storyline disappointing.

This is disappointing in that it is only half a book. If you want to purchase the next book in the series, either don't read the first half of the next book,The Bloodbath Ritual, or don't waste your time reading Origins-- they are identical.

I wondered what I got myself into at first as it has a torture scene at one point, but it turned out to be an OK read. I am curious as what the next book is about, I might have to read it.

This is a good FBI story. It has excitement and adventure throughout. The story is interesting and holds your attention. A good read to have on a quiet day when you are up for a good crime story.

I give it a 1 since there is no lower score. Having worked in law enforcement for many years I found the book lacking in research. The FBI agents do not wear a uniform for daily duty unless it is a 3 piece suit and dark glasses. I found the main character lacking in morals by acquiescing to participate in murder, arson and fraud. His one night stand romance was not an expression of the love he professed to his team mate. The supervisor that encouraged his protégé to join a supposedly secret unit that had no restrictions was not fit to be in law enforcement let alone a supervisor or mentor. The suspense was not very realistic and in my opinion waned. I have a feeling the author does not particularly like law enforcement officials. Are there dirty cops? Of course there are and there is jealously and rivalry between most all law enforcement agencies, even in house but rarely to murder each other. There is a lack of finesse in the characters and it is another book written to lure you to the next book with much hanging at the end. The extra training was not well presented along with the kidnapping and torture of the primary character who comes across to me as insincere. I would not recommend it.

An FBI undercover agents on a dangerous robbery stakeout are led by one of the best FBI agents and team leaders, Alex Hollick. They setup the robbers to hit this bank on a sting operation, but the highly clever robbers seem to always be one step ahead of his team. Jennifer Fletcher, his colleague and Communication's Agent, whom he has a crush on, by chance hears a lead that the robbers are in progress at another bank.

They set out in a wild pursuit, which leads to a chase, car accidents, shooting of innocent bystanders and worse...the loss of two of his team, and Jennifer seriously injured. Alex fears the worst, that one of his team sold them out. They capture 2 robbers and kill the others to solve this case, but at a high expense. Also learn that quite a bit of money was hidden and believe the wife of his friend and second in command could be in on it, too.

This amazing story takes Alex into a promotion as a Secret Agent, and no one can know about it, or he will find imminent death. This leads to his abduction in training, torture, and leaving Jennifer without any knowledge of what he does. Exciting!
