About the Author
Hello! My name is Kathi Barton and I’m an author. I have been married to my very best friend Sonny for at times seems several lifetimes – in a good way, honey. And together we have three wonderful children and then the ones we brought into the world - Paul and Dale Barton, Jason and Wendy Barton and Danielle and Ben Conklin. They have given us seven of the greatest treasures on Earth. They don’t live at home seven days a week! No, seriously, seven grandchildren – Gavin, Spring, Ben, Trinity, Sarah, Kelly and Kian.

I read the Hunter series and after several mentions of Willow and Alexander in those I was excited to see that those two had books as well.
That being said I did not care for Alexander or Heather as characters.
Alexander just seems to be an overgrown baby. If things aren't going his way he uses his money or family name to fix the problems. He threw around the fact that because he was part owner of the cafe that he had rights to just boss around employees he has never met. Then if that's not bad enough he really does treat Heather like crap. He never asks her side of the story after talking to her mother, and instead of trying to woo Heather he bullies her into doing what he wants and uses her kid as well.
Heather is no better. At the beginning I really liked her character. A single mother working wherever whenever she can to make ends meet for her family. She was even working online do get her high school diploma instead of just taking a GED test. But after meeting Alex she just becomes a doormat. Instead of standing up for herself she allows him and his family to bully her around until they get their way.
I really do love Kathi's books and writing, but this book just was not one I enjoyed reading.
Alexander James cashing in his chips and selling his portion of the business to his partner Brick. Deciding to move closer to his parents and baby sister Willow, Alex soon meets the love of his life in of all places....the local bakery. Only thing is, he didn't make a very good first impression. In fact he mad an ass of himself, but of course he did...he is a man after all.
Heather Laird was a single mom and working three, yes three jobs to help support herself, her son Jack and her grandpa Tom. She was asleep on her feet for sure. When some idiot man calls the bakery she worked at and started making demands....she hung up on him.....then the ass shows up at the bakery sometime later.....and continued making a nuisance of himself. Heather trusted no one after the horrible childhood she lived, she took care of her own with no help from anyone. Her son Jack was the most important thing in her life, no matter how he was conceived, she would never give him up.
What an exciting series this was even if only two books. One thing about Kathi s. Barton's books...her bad guys are the best bad guys ever.....stupid as the day is long and as nasty as they come. Family is also always an important ingredient in her stories and this one is no exception. Wish there were more books in this series.

Alexander has decided to sell his share of A&B Computers with his good friend Brick Wells to be closer to his family. He's a computer programmer and with a heavy heart his share is being sold to a sinister guy named Mik. Mik wants to be able to live free of charge and knows that Alex can make that possible if he eliminates his partner and him. Heather's life is hard. She works 2 jobs, goes to school, and is raising her son, Jack along with her grandda, Tom. She works at the House of Aroma's bakery. Alex stops by the bakery one day and happens to save Heather's boss, Miss Caroline, from being attacked. He's grown attached to the bakery & finds he has a new little friend named Jack. Alex meets Heather thru the bakery and instantly has a connection with her. Is Alex able to save Heather from the hard life she has known since 15 years of age and being on her own because of a horrible situation that her mother refuses to believe happened to her? What will Mik do to get what he wants and how many people will get hurt by him? Can Alex protect the ones he loves? I fell in love with the James family. Willow and Jared are wonderful people. Alex's mom and dad are a dream come true. Not only are they a tight family, but a family everyone wishes they had. Very well written Ms. Barton.
