I have not finished the book, I may skip to the end to get the HEA and all. The lost periods, making run on sentences, the incomplete thoughts of the writer, do not lend to a good reading experience. That said, I do like the story itself. The fact the hero does not attack the heroine is a great thing to me. Another reviewer suggested her being a 30 year old virgin was unbelievable. Perhaps in this day of great promiscuity it might be, but I myself was one. It's not so unbelievable.
My suggestion to the author, read your story out loud, at least once, and reread it yourself a few times before passing it on. If you can take yourself from the story itself and just look at the words written, you might find a lot of the errors you made. Don't rely on spell check. My publisher told me to read mine aloud before submitting them. Since I can't just read to myself out loud, I have a friend who likes me to read to him. This helps a lot, I've found. I correct dialogue a lot that way.
I stopped reading this at 51% then flipped to the end to make sure there was a HEA, and of course the lead-in for the next story. So how can I give four stars and a review? Well, the storyline is fairly good, there's shifting and battles, and the hero isn't abusing the heroine in some lame BDSM or erotica attempt - which is so common in today's paranormal and shifter romances. All right, we have gorgeous 30 year old virgin trope, but I'll let that ridiculousness go this time. I honestly think plenty of people are going to just love this book. I personally look forward to the next entry in the series.
So what was my issue? The writing. It's just not cohesive, leaves you hanging as the writer thinks I am somehow going to read her mind and know what she is thinking. Not happening so much. This is common with writers who don't have professional editors, excellent Writing Partners, and good beta readers. If you don't write the words then I won't know what is happening. It's like reading a secretary's shorthand: jumbled to me, makes sense to the secretary. Ms. Simpson also has a problem with lack of descriptors, inability to give feelings to her characters - sure they can say they love or grieve or feel happy or angst but as a reader I want to see the characters experience these emotions and feel the emotions with the characters. I won't say more about missing words and poor sentence and paragraph issues, other than there's plenty.
Anyway, I like the story and recommend it. But I honestly don't think I will ever go back and read more after I stopped in this story.
Alexa feels like an outcast because her hair turned white when she turned sixteen and no one can tell her why. She only has one friend in the world and parents have been missing for two years.
Syn finds Alexa at her parents house when she runs away from the evil that is following her. Alexa is his dragon mate. If she does not accept him than he will be frozen forever in his dragon form. Syn's oldest brother Javon is frozen in is mountain home now. She decides to go with him to his hidden mountain to get to know him before she makes a decision to mate or not.
There is a lot of different plot twists and interesting people to meet in this book. I love dragon stories and this one is very entertaining. We have three more brothers to learn about and possibly a sister. I truly enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one. I have read all of this authors books that is out at this time and have loved them all. I recommend the "Love Me Harder" books also.
