I had a couple of problems with this book. And the first one was miscommunication between Sam and Alex because Sam was really the one taking care of Alex. And they never really talked about what would happen in between them now that they were going to have a baby. And this really annoyed me.
My second and last problem was THE CLIFFHANGER AT THE END OF THIS BOOK. I don't mind cliffhangers, but the way they are done is what makes me annoyed. It kind of ended very abruptly, and on the next page, it said, " Alex and Sam's relationship.... Find out in Saving Alex". And this was the big thing that ruined the book for me. If the author could have waited a bit longer, I would have been satisfied, and eager about the next book. But, it ruined it, and I can't unread what I just read.
Although I did like the rest of the book, I will not be reading the rest of the series.
If you enjoy well-written mpreg stories like I do you gotta get the first book of the "Unexpected" series. I titled a very good mpreg review I read by Eola Eden named Unexpected Heat #1 "Shocked Moody Pregnant Omega. Well this book could be similarly titled. A one night stand turns into the absolutely last thing Alex ever expected. A STD. He goes to the doctor who says if she didn't know better and he were a woman it sounds like he would be pregnant, but since that is "impossible" unless he had been with a Vampire.
Male pregnancy is illegal, punishable by imprisonment. The child goes to an orphanage, its other father while allowed to visit, cannot assume custody. Alex is terrified based on his own feelings and behavior, as well as the discussion at the doctor's office.
Wishing for the best, but preparing for the worst. Alex is horrified to find himself pregnant. What can he do? Even if he believed in abortion, what legitimate doctor would perform it without being obligated to turn him over to the authorities? He lived with his best friend of many years Sam. Someone who he shared everything with except This. His secret is driving a wedge in between their friendship. Alex finally reaches a Breaking Point and Sam is there, the one who catches him when he falls. What will happen when he tells his friend? Will he leave him?
With Alex's best friend's help they search for the one night stand who must be the baby's father. This draws them closer. Yet neither believes the other could be interested in him. Jealous of the handsome Vampire he is searching for, Sam still does what's best for his closest friend. What will happen when / if he finds Gerome? Will Alex want to get together with his child's father? Will the Vampire be happy to learn he is a father? Tired, worried, exhausted Sam persisted. How would Alex even give birth? Would this Gerome character know anything about how male pregnancy worked? How many months? Would Alex find sanctuary in Gerome's coven? Did he know of any doctors who handle pregnant male patients?
Alex was so scared as his pregnancy advances. His realistic fears of discovery, prosecution, going to prison, and most disturbing of all being separated from his child for several years. A child he has come to love as it grows and he gets larger - forcing him to take many more precautions. Online classes, quitting his job, not going outside. Alex begins to lean more and more on his best friend Sam, but he hates having to do it since he is so used to being independent. Then this pregnancy is making his hormones go haywire. Causing an array of emotional responses he has no control over. He's moody, snappy, and quick to be brought to tears.
There is definitely a cliffhanger at the End of this book. I'd advise you to get the next book, "Saving Alex" so you can continue reading this interesting and entertaining mpreg story. The author is very good at setting the mood and giving you the thoughts & feelings of her characters. This is a HFN (Happy For Now) story, just because it is the first of a series. You will want to read the next to find out what happens. Expect a lot of surprises.
