I have one on the roof. You can pull an AP miles away in with one of these. Just be aware that this is not a small antenna. It's 3 feet by 2 feet and weighs around 5 lbs. Once you have it assembled indoors you'll see that it is BIG. Definitely NOT an indoor antenna. Putting this up requires a mast/pole and you really ought to have an assistant specially if you're going to mount it in a high (i.e. dangerous) location. It's also highly directional (10 degrees beam width.) Make sure to put it where it will have the clearest possible LOS to to your target AP. Trees, buildings, hills, that are in the beam will degrade or completely block the signal. That makes it unsuitable as a hot spot transmitter. Your customers would have to move right into the beam (think search light vs. flood light) to get a connection. Just a few degrees pointing error can make the difference between no bars and 5 bars. If you want something much smaller and easier to deal with, I'd recommend a 18 db Yagi. It won't have the quite range, but you can use it indoors, it's only about a 10th the size, weighs nothing comparatively and it's not as picky about pointing (30 degrees beam width.) Just search Amazon for "18 db Yagi wifi antenna outdoor".

My only complaint is that it didn't come with any instructions. I docked my review one star for that. Some advice: Make sure to look at the screws before you assemble and use the longer ones to secure the feed element (thing with the cable attached) and short ones to secure the main reflector (the basket.) The single tiny Phillp's screw is for the feed reflector (the small silver metal "V".) The two halves of the main reflector slip together overlapping then you use the screws to secure the overlapping halves.

We have been using these successfully in an amateur radio mesh-net application. Great outdoor antenna for a very specialized application.

Remember that 24dBi translates into a very narrow beam width. You sacrifice an omnidirectional pattern for long distance. And, because of that very narrow beam width, it must be pointed RIGHT AT your intended target.

Another thing: at these frequencies you must have OPTICAL line of sight. If you cannot see your target you won't get a signal through. A tree in the way will block it.

I am taking one star off for the lack of proper instructions. Note that the photographs above show an assembly error: the small stamped aluminum reflector is supposed to mount the other way, with the 'wings' pointed back toward the dish.

I have seen other assembly errors with this antenna, for instance getting the tabs of the two dish halves lapped wrongly. This bends the reflector and degrades performance. Also I have seen people mount the feed 90 degrees to the dish grid, which will also degrade performance. Another mistake is to mount the whole thing with horizontal polarity, instead of vertical, which is what most Wi-Fi installations use. You lose most of the gain advantage with a cross-polarity, and you won't like the results.

You need to know what you are doing to make this very effective antenna work as well as it can.

This product come shipped in pieces neatly in a box. It can be put together fairly quickly, however, the instructions were ok but not great. I went onto the website of the seller to get more information. My objective with this product was to see if I could detect any wireless signals in the area as well as my neighbor wanted to see if I could detect his network about 1/4 mile away through trees. (He said I couldn't). I used a high powered router (longer range) to attach to this to make it work. With the router attached, I saw a lot of networks and yes, I could detect my neighbors network through the trees. My neighbor was surprised as they were using a regular wifi modem inside their shop and did not expect me to see it. I am very pleased with this product. I have a similar one mounted on a roof of a house that points at a cell tower as the house is in a dead zone and it provides 5 bars reception as to barely 1. Great product. Reviewed by G. Swanson

Yes I expected some assembly however there are no instructions. I guess most folks ordering such a critter understand xactly how it goes together. Not even a good close up picture. And is was pretty simple , but there is a sticker with a arrow on the feed horn, Hmmm up or down , guess well have to plug it in and see, just didn't want to climb the pole again to change it.

I'm using this antenna and a (Hawking) half watt amplifier with Google WiFi and I get 100% signal each time. W/O the amplifier, the signal goes down to 25% and less, so it needs an amplifier. The antenna is not even pointed exactly at the access point, but the signal is still awesome.

The only grievance I have is that it came with no instructions. I only had the above diagram. The rest of it was guess work on my part. It's a good thing I worked with microwave antennas on a previous job.

IMHO, well made, well priced. Very well constructed and made it easy for BBHN Mesh work. Solid install design. No real need for detailed instructions. Product pictures say it all. I'd buy another one from the seller.
