I originally purchased this book to help with a class in which the professor didn't seem the think we needed a book. He would hand out snippets of the book, so I bought the actual book to fill in the blanks. As a foundational tool for systems theory this book has been invaluable. That said the book can occasionally get a bit wordy and leave your foraging about the internet for a better explanation. The book itself is quite dated and the language both English and math have evolved over the years. If you already have a sound understanding of the material, this book is a great reference. If you are just learning, this book is a relatively self-contained exhibit for you to draw knowledge from. That said applying the knowledge gleaned from this book will force you to understand the theory well enough to abstract, this book will not hold your hand in this regard.
